The provided diagrams illustrate how the current Australian water supply system works and

the plan for future changes. Overall, the main change is about how water can be recycled for
consumption in the city.

The present system begins with pure water stored in a dam. This water is then transferred
into the city to be used by households, factories and shops. From the city, two kinds of water
are disposed of, storm water and waste water. Storm water is directly discharged into a river
while waste water is treated in a treatment plant before being released into the river.

In the future system, clean water is still stored in a dam. However, both waste water and
storm water go through a treatment process which turns them into clean water ready for use
by facilities in the city. This system will prevent any water from being dumped into the river.
