At the end of lesson, the learners shall be able to:
1. Identify the different types of charts, their elements and uses.
2. Value the use of charts, its element and uses in presenting data.
3. Illustrate and present different types of charts using excel.

II. Subject matter

GRADE: 8
UNIT TOPIC: VISUAL PRESENTATION OF DATA
LESSON 15: Working with Charts
Instructional materials: InfoSheet, LCD Screen/TV, Video presentation, envelopes

III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activity
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of attendance
 Classroom management
 Review

Before we start our lesson for today,

let me ask first who among here is familiar
or used Microsoft Excel?
What do you think Microsoft Excel do (Students answer may vary)
or used for?
B. Motivation
To begin our lesson, let us have a short
game to introduce you to our lesson.
Do you know the game 4 Pics 1 word?
The first to raise hands and say the
correct answer will have the point. We have
Yes ma’am!
here seven words.
Is that clear, class?
Since everyone has an idea how to
play the game, let’s begin!
(The teacher will show the game on
the screen) (Students plays the game)
“First word is…” “column”
“Correct! Next word…” “pie”
“Very good! On to our third word…” “bar”
“Good job! For our fourth word…” “line”
“Correct! Next is…” “data”
“Good job! Our sixth word is…” “Excel”
“Very good! For our last word on this “series”
game is…”

Well done! Based on your answers,

what do you think our topic for today is all (Students answer may vary)
about?

Excellent! Our topic for today is all

about charts and their uses.

(Proceed to discussion)
C. Activity
Now that we know more about the
different charts and their elements, let us
have a group activity for today.

To form a group, we will be counting 1-

3 and the students who got the same number Yes, maam!
will be automatically grouped, understood?

(The teacher will assign the area

(Students will start counting a forming
specific for each group)
their groups)

Each group will receive an envelope

containing a picture of a chart with blank
spaces. The goal is to correctly label the
picture and attach it on the board.
Do I make myself clear? Yes, Ma’am!

Everyone’s ready? On my signal… Go! (Students will do the activity)

D. Analysis
If you really understand our lesson for
today, what is chart?
(Students answer may vary)
A chart combines text, symbols and/or
graphics to show the relationship between
multiple data sets.

Remember class, there are many types

of charts you can use depending on what
data you want to input.

Do you think charts can only be used in (Student answers may vary)
Excel? Charts are accessible in other Microsoft
Offices.

Precisely!
E. Abstraction
After our fun sets of activity, we learn
the different charts and their elements.
Now, in your opinion, what are the
important of charts and their elements?
Charts enable you to visually compare
multiple sets of data.
Charts can help people better
understand and remember information.
Compelling charts can help you make
your point more convincing and lend
credibility to your presentation.
Excellent!
As charts allow us to see data or
information visually presented, it was easy
for us to understand or analyze data
information. If you were to create a chart,
what type you’ll use? Why?
(Students answer may vary)
F. Application
Now, may I call a representative per
group to pick up the pieces of paper in the
table.
(The teacher will place 5 pieces of
paper in front of the table folded)
(Students will pick their representative
and choice their piece)
Inside, a type of chart is written.
Each group will make a presentation
for their assigned chart and show to the class
their own creation presenting the usage of
charts according to their job/role.
Every presentation must be done within
▪ Bar Chart (Food cart owner’s most
5 minutes.
popular dishes)
▪ Area Chart (Teacher’s student
attendance)
▪ Line Chart (Student’s Activity
progress)
▪ Pie Chart (Mother’s daily routine)

Yes ma’am!
None
Do you understand?
Any questions?
