speech, etc is called audience.

OR

A group of listeners or spectators is called audience.

OR

The people we want to communicate/share with is called audience.

Definition of Analysis: Analysis means to " break down", to see , to observe parts of a whole.
So audience analysis means to know the characteristics of people, listeners or spectators whom we want
to communicate with. It is said " know your audience!" Knowing your audience—their beliefs, attitudes,
age, education level, job functions, language, and culture is important for successful
communication/presentation.

Audience analysis is very important for successful presentation/ communication. Without audience
analysis we can not communicate/present successfully. Speakers/ presentors connect with audience
through audience analysis.

The more you know and understand about your audience and their psychological needs, the better you
can prepare your speech/presentation and better audience analysis enhances confidence and reduce
anxiety . Moreover, it helps in stress management.

Types of audience analysis

There are three types of audience analysis

(3) The psychological analysis,

1) The Situational Analysis: This analysis focuses on the situation for which the audience is
gathered.

ethnicity, religious affiliation etc.

3) Psychological Analysis : It means knowing about the “attitudes, beliefs, and values” of the
audience.

We can do audience analysis by direct observation, analysis by inference, and data collection , by survey
and by interview.

By Observation: Audience analysis by direct observation means using our five senses—hearing,
seeing, touching, tasting, and smelling.

By Inference: We can do audience analysis by inference . An inference is a logical judgment on the

basis of available evidence.

Data Sampling Data sampling uses statistical evidence to quantify and clarify the characteristics of
your audience. These characteristics are called variables.
