The spark of the Renaissance began in Italy (Florence then Rome). The lectures identified the
different characteristics of Renaissance, and how art has been developed by the hands of Pioneers
in painting and sculpture (Giotto, Donatello, Leonardo, Raphaelle, Michael Angelo,…).
Requirements:
Referring to the evolution of Art in the Renaissance, and taking in consideration the basic
characteristics of this era, choose one of the renaissance pioneer’s master pieces, you are required
to do the following on A3 paper size:
i. Illustrate the Concept, theme idea of the artwork, using a critical reading as a reference for you
analysis. You may use any needed sketches, images, text to clarify the idea.
ii. Analyse the art work using the basic visual design principles and convert it to a basic abstract
design elements and shapes, identifying the idea, concept, depth, values, and any other elements
in the art work.
Objectives:
a- Knowledge and understanding of the basic characteristics of the Renaissance Art.
b- An application of using the basic visual design elements and principles in analyzing the art work
c- Practical skills of observation and analysis as a basic visual design tool
The lectures demonstrated the different schools of modern art: cubism, serialism, .. and
highlighted the new painting and sculpture different techniques and applied arts using different
materials (Steel, glass, …). Also the lectures identifies the different Art pioneers who inspired
modern Art Movement: (Picasso, Modernian,…) and their reflection on architecture modern
movement.
Requirements:
Referring to the modern art principles, and taking in consideration the basic characteristics of the
different modern art schools and approaches, using your previous analysis of Question (1)
(Visual Abstract Analysis of one the renaissance pioneers master pieces), you are required
to do the following on A3 paper size:
i. Generate a Conceptual idea inspired by the theme of the art work Assignment (4), trying to apply
one of the modern art movement approaches. You may illustrate your idea using sketches, images,
texts or any needed illustrated figures to clarify your designed concept.
ii. Based on the basic visual abstract analysis of Question (1), apply your generated concept; to
convert the abstract shapes and basic visual elements into a 2D modern art work; respecting all
the visual fundamental principles of modern design.
Objectives:
a- Knowledge and understanding of the basic characteristics of the Modern Art.
b- An application of using the basic visual design elements and principles in designing a 2D modern
art work generated from another Renaissance art work.
c- Intellectual, Professional and practical skills
d- General and transferable skills
