Lesson 1: Career Oppurtunities in Outdoor Recreation
Outdoor recreation-related occupations cover all activities in outdoor environment whether
land, on water, underwater, underground, and even the highlands. As society continues to embrace
travelling, the need for skilled outdoor specialists increases. Working with nature and various kinds
of people requires in-depth knowledge and skills related in the field. This may include knowledge and
skills in outdoor activity programming, land, water, and natural resources management, environment
and cultural education, facilities and equipment management, outdoor recreation commercial
operations, and many more. Aspirants should also be willing to work during nights, weekends, and
holidays

Other attributes may include:

• Ability to integrate management skills to outdoor recreational events and activities


• Ability to communicate information to diverse clientele.
• Ability to establish partnership and linkage with local or national groups and authorities.
• Has an in-depth knowledge of the environmental and cultural characteristics of the locale.

OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL CAREERS:


1. A blogger creates interesting and comprehensive articles about a particular subject or topic for
publication on a website. To be a successful blogger, one should have a love for writing and is
eager to master a specific topic of interest. Mental toughness and patience is also needed in
handling criticisms and building a career momentum.

2. A Camp Director plans and administers outdoor recreational camps. They lead the operations and
programs during the day or night camps. A camp director should have an ability to develop
activities that are aligned with camp goals.

3. An Outdoor Adventure Guide are outdoor recreational specialists that guides clienteles during
their outdoor adventure. Some employers require certifications from accredited licensure or
certification providers for a specific outdoor activity. Short courses such as basic life support
and emergency management are necessary trainings one must have to be an outdoor adventure
guide.

Lesson 2: Careers in Community Recreation
The growing recreation involvement among health-conscious members of community demands
new breeds of recreation services. Some of the careers in community recreation are:

1. A Community Program Director creates, maintains, and implements recreational programs


suitable for the needs of the community. This profession is in demand for government
institutions, private groups and tourism and entertainment entrepreneurs.

2. A Recreation and Leisure Director is a specialist who has an in-depth knowledge about fitness,
sports, and other recreational activities to cater clientele’s diverse preferences. A supervisor
should have management and marketing skills to make recreational and leisure programs
profitable and sustainable.

Some clienteles engage in sports as their leisure and recreation. Other community
recreation careers includes:
