SNAKE BITE, FIRST AID

& CONTROL MEASURES


KNOW ABOUT SNAKE

• All Snakes are not venomous, so every Snake bite is not going to result in death.

• Even a venomous snake bite is not always fatal because the severity of a snake bite
depends upon many factors like
a) Depth of bite
b) Whether the snake injected venom or not.
c) Size of snake, etc.

• For its future safety, all poisonous snakes don’t inject venom suddenly, It will take
more time to regain their venom.
• The only available cure is an anti-venom serum injection
FIRST AID TREATMENT
➢Keep the victim calm, restrict movement, and Keep talking to
the victim.
➢Do not let them panic, when under panic it will enhance heart
rate and would circulate the venom faster in the body.
➢The patient should not be allowed to exert himself in any
manner
➢Do not allow the victim to eat or to drink water to keep
metabolism at a low rate. No water food is the Golden Rule
➢Do not cover the bite area and puncture marks. The wound
should be gently cleaned with antiseptic.
➢The only remedy for venomous snake bites is the anti-venom
serum which is available at almost government hospitals and
public health centers. Some private nursing homes have also
started stocking it and treating snake bite cases.
HOW NOT TO TREAT A SNAKE BITE

▪ No ice or any other type of cooling action on the bite.


▪ Do not suck the wound with mouth
HOW TO PREVENT SNAKE BITE

➢ Use torch light at night. All local poisonous snakes are active in the evening, and at
night pay more attention in the forest, close to bushes and plants.
➢ The snake usually doesn’t bite you unit you interact with them.
➢ Always keep snake catching kit in readily available condition to catch the snake
instead of moving it with an ordinary stick.
➢ If you meet a snake, go back slowly don’t do sudden movements do not turn your
back to the snake do not run, and give the possibility for a snake to go away.
➢ No attempt should be made to kill the snake to carry it along with the patient to the
hospital. It will delay the patient to reach the hospital. A qualified doctor can diagnose
by observing the patient for clinical symptoms and pathological tests.
