Hello! I’m Henry Ngo, my pronouns are he/him and I’m a second-generation Canadian settler.
My parents immigrated as refugees from Vietnam to the territories of the Huron-Wendat
People, the Anishinaabeg People and the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, where I was born. I
was raised on the traditional territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the Musqueam,
Tsawwassen, Stó:lō, Stz’uminus, and Kwantlen First Nations. I’m also a parent to three kids. I
am grateful for the opportunity to work as the Data and Analytics Lead in the Office of the
Provincial Health Officer. We hope to work with our new team member to create insightful
data visualizations that leads to effective reporting. We also hope to provide a supportive
environment for our new team member to grow and thrive as a data analyst. We provide
mentorship and on-the-job training for new teammates to get comfortable in their new role.
We also encourage our team members to connect with data science communities of practice
within government and within their own local communities to find opportunities for learning

The Office of the Provincial Health Officer (OPHO) is committed to Truth and Reconciliation.
The OPHO works in meaningful partnership with Indigenous peoples to disrupt colonial
structures and advance Indigenous health equity. The OPHO has partnerships with the First
Nations Health Authority and Métis Nation BC to pursue collaborative projects and develop
reports on Indigenous health, wellness and determinants of health. The OPHO’s relationships
are grounded in principles of self-determination, respect, reciprocal accountability, cultural
safety, cultural humility and two-eyed seeing.The position is located in the Office of the
Provincial Health Officer which is an independent office within the Ministry of Health (MoH).
The mandate for the OPHO is outlined in the Public Health Act. The Provincial Health Officer is
the senior public health official for BC and is responsible for monitoring the health of the
population of BC and providing independent advice to the ministers and public officials on
public health issues.
As a member of the Population Health Surveillance and Epidemiology (PHSE) team within the
Office of the Provincial Health Officer, the Data Visualization Analyst will support BC’s
population health surveillance analytics and informatics capacity through research and data
visualization contributions to internal and external reports.
The PHSE team is responsible for applying advanced statistical and epidemiological methods
to monitor the trends in population health and health inequalities in the province. In
collaboration with the Data and Analytics Lead, the Data Visualization Analyst is responsible for
creating dashboards, charts, tables and other data visualization tools to support the team’s
data products and reports. The Data Visualization Analyst also conducts necessary research to
support their work and they may be involved in developing tools such as data visualization
templates and R/Python scripts, to improve the team’s visualization workflow. The Data
Visualization Analyst works closely with other Data and Analytics team members, the OPHO
Report Team, as well as external partners, including Indigenous organizations.
The Data Visualization Analyst will receive on-the-job training, support and mentorship to carry
out their roles as well as opportunities to grow and expand their data careers. Some example
opportunities include developing software packages, contributing to data science projects and
gaining data management experience.
