1. Introduction

Mechanical engineering department semester two students are required to

take Workshop Practice (GMO 0313) as part of their diploma programme. Their
workshop is located at Kompleks Teknologi 2 on level 3. The workshop is around
1000 square feet in size. Inside the workshop, there are several machines such as
a turning machine, milling machine, pedestal grinder, and CNC machine. These
workshops are the most popular among students. As a result of this situation, the
administration has made it a priority to carry out CI activities. Continuous
Improvement is an ongoing, long-term approach to improving processes, products
and services. It is to improve every process in your company by focusing on
enhancing the activities that generate the most value for your customer while
removing as many waste activities as possible. This project report will outline the
specifics of our project, including the project’s background, budget estimation,
feasibility studies, methodology and project results.
2. Problem Statement & Objective

Heavy work activity in workshop practice classes will cause hazard in term of
machine failure or electricity shock that might causing spark and starts a fire.
During this semester for this subject, we learned about continues improvement
(CI) which are common practice in industrial field. Related to our studies for this
semester, we need to conduct a CI project for completing our assessment. In order
to prevent and reduce injuries during the emergencies situations in workshop,
current safety precautions and systems need to be evolve by CI project.

The objective of this project :

• Improve current emergency systems such as signage for emergency

situation

• Update the current risk program according to the safety standards

which is mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery

5. IMPLEMENTATION

These show old standard operation procedure that unable to give the correct
information about the workshop and safety procedure in emergencies situation.

We print out the new information and paste on the information board using the
laminated paper to give protection to the safety procedure and information about
the workshop.
These image presenting the old signange that hard to find and doesn’t have colour.

We replace the old signage in Figure 1 with updated and eye-catching signage,

7. CONCLUSION

In conclusion, we have achieved to prevent and reduce injuries because of heavy

work activity in workshop practice classes due to machine failure or electrical
shock. Our team improved current emergency system such as signage for
emergency situation and updated the current risk program according to the safety
standards which is mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. Based on the
problem, we prepared signages to put at workshop that are more effective. We
are also improved safety procedure in the workshop to be more efficient and easier
to understand. This project started from 26 January until 30 March, about two
months. Our budget to carry out the project are only RM 60.00 because we are
more focus on signage and procedure in the workshop to be more secure. By this
time, we were able to show a visualisation of the safety procedure that had been
updated in the workshop (SOP) and as a result, this project will be useful in order
to workshop safety for both students and academic staffs alike.
