INTRODUCTION

UMW Aerospace Sdn Bhd is Malaysia’s first


homegrown Tier-1 aero engine component supplier to
Rolls-Royce in the Asia-Pacific region. It was formed
in July 2015 as part of UMW Holdings Group. It is
located at Serendah, Rawang, Selangor.

UMW Aerospace Sdn Bhd managed to secure long-


term agreement with Rolls-Royce to manufacture fan
cases for the Trent 1000 and Trent 7000 aero
engines as a Tier 1 supplier.

After managed to earn several distinguished


certifications, including the AS9100 and the Rolls-
Royce SABRe-2 on 2017, UMW Aero manages to
deliver first fan case to Rolls-Royce Seletar Assy and Notes: Tier 1 supplier is a manufacturer
who provides products directly to a
Test Factory, Singapore on 29 November 2017. company without dealing with a middleman 2
or other manufacturers.

7. 7 Quality tools training

- The training purpose is to give basics knowledge on
the quality tools that frequently used on daily work at
the company. The tools are cause and effect diagrams,
flow charts, check sheets, histograms, pareto charts
control charts and scatter diagrams

- Involve complex machining process.
- Contain high scale machine like Carnaghi
AC40, Starrag and CMM room.
- Involve turning and cutting process where
1200kg with 18 mm wall thickness Titanium
Front case turn into 600kg with 3-8 mm
thickness.

- Involve complex machining and inspection
process
- Contain small scale machine like Carnaghi
AC20,CMM and FPI room.
- NDT inspection such as FPI and X-ray takes
place and also dimension inspection on CMM.

CONCLUSION
Company overview:
- Stable working time and good work environment. Minimum over time
staff due to not much delay work. Bosses always encourages their staff
to increase their motivational spirit and keep continuing to improve
themselves.
- Safety is very prioritize. – achieved a remarkable safety standard of
1,500 days without industrial accident [or “Zero LTI (Lost-Time-Injury)”].
And only 1 case of Covid 19 recorded among the staff since the
pandemic started last year because the company takes very serious on
the Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) in the factory.
- Very friendly and hardworking staff. Always offer to teach and
provides help or support to each other.

CONCLUSION

Skills and Lessons Learned:


- Participate in new T7000 fan case Phase 2 trial project.
- Improve skills in Microsoft Office mainly Microsoft Excel and understand
engineering drawing & documents.
- Involved in replanning and problem solving meeting and manage to
prioritize works in pressure.
- Improve personal communication, teamwork and work ethics.
