Checks/Adjustments
Fuel supply pressure check
– Fit tool n° 60 05 705 076.
– Start the engine
The fuel pump must maintain the minimum pressure
indicated below. If the pressure is low, change the filters
and start the check again.
Pressures and flows (see "measurements" sheet, chapter
A0).

161hsm21c

Accelerator control adjustment

161msm05
Make sure that:
1. The adjustment measurement (A) satisfies the following 2 conditions:
– The pedal shoe effort must be between 3 and 5 daN.
– The pedal must return easily to the high position.
2. The angular detector values:
– Raised pedal (in idling speed stop): Maximum 0,5 V.
– Pedal fully depressed: Minimum 4,5 V.
The voltage will be measured with ignition switched on.
Use the cable n° 60 05 005 577 to measure the output voltage.
To calibrate the accelerator lever and pedal, refer to chapter G7

Atles 906 – 07.2006 – GB A1.7

Removal/refitting

Changing the fuel filters

4
– Loosen screw (4) and remove the cup (Y).
– Before positioning the new filter, fill the fuel cup.
– Tighten the screw (4).
– Unscrew filter (Z). Z
– Before positioning the new filter, fill the fuel cup.
– Screw the new filter on until the seal touches the filter
mounting. Then tighten it another half turn.

Bleeding air from the injection system

B
IMPORTANT: Never loosen the injector pipes.
– Work the manual pump (A) and pump until the push
button offers resistance.
– Loosen drain screw (B), tighten up again and start the
pumping cycle again until all the air in (B) is eliminated.
– In the event of a persistant problem with starting,
unscrew valve 4 bar (C) in order to completely purge
the injection circuit..

Removal/refitting

Removing the single-point injection

pump
– Remove the rocker cover and balance the rocker arms
of the cylinder corresponding to the pump to be
changed using tool n° 77 01 388 169. C
– Remove the plug located between the first and second
single-point injection pump.
– Position tool n° 60 05 005 572 (C).
– With the thumb screw (C), bring the rack to the stop
position. Tighten screw (C) by hand.
161hsm22c
– Turn the crankshaft through 120° (direction of motion).
– Remove the injection pipe (D) to the injector then the
injection pump. C
– Remove the shim with a magnetic tool. D
– Note the "EP" code on the motor identification plate.
Example: 397 for pump n° 2.
– Read value "A" on the new injection pump.
– In the following table, check the correspondence of the
"EK" code in relation to the "EP" code noted earlier.
Example: 397 corresponds to 146,9 mm.
– Calculate the theoretical shim thickness (CT) using the
formula:
CT = EK – (143 + A/100) 161hsm23c

CT = 146,9 – (143 + 65/100)

CT = 146,9 – 143,65
CT = 2,35 mm
– Refer to the second table to select the shim thickness
to be inserted according to the theoretical result (CT).
– Place the corresponding shim on the tappet.

Carefully check the calculation, because

an error of 1/10 mm may destroy the
engine in due course.

Removal/refitting

Refitting the single-point injection

pump
– Install the pump (lightly oil the seals).
– Position the pump pin at mid stroke and engage it
carefully.
– Pivot the pump such that the pin engages the notch in
the rack.

Do not use force, as this could distort the

rack, which can only be replaced by
removing the engine.

– Tighten the flange bolts to 0,5 daN.m (position the

chamfer towards the pump).
– Back-off the bolts by 60°.
– Turn anticlockwise up to the stop,
max. torque 0,15 daN.m. 161hsm26c

Do not use force, otherwise the pump

lever may break.

– Tighten the flange bolts in several stages, 0,7 then 1

then 3 daN.m.
Note: Always begin with the bolt furthest away from
the engine flywheel.
– Remove the rack locking tool. 161hsm27c

When removing several pumps, beware

not to mix up the shims.
