Cabling
● When routing cables, reserve at least 30 mm clearance between the cables
and heat-generating components or areas. This prevents deterioration or
damage to the cable insulation layer.
● Do not route cables behind the air intake and exhaust vents of the
equipment.
● Ensure that cables meet the VW-1 flame spread rating requirements.
● Bind cables of the same type together. When routing cables of different types,
ensure that they are at least 30 mm away from each other.
● Ensure that all cables are securely bound. Route and bind cables so that they
appear neat and tidy and their cable sheaths are intact.
● If an AC input power cable is connected to the cabinet from the top, bend the
cable in a U shape outside the cabinet and then route it into the cabinet.
● Ensure that the bending radius of each cable is at least five times the
diameter of the cable.
● When routing power cables, ensure that there is no coiling or twisting. Do not
join or weld power cables. If necessary, use a longer cable.
Installation at Heights
Working at heights refers to operations that are performed at least 2 meters
above the ground.
Do not work at heights in any of the following situations:
● Rainwater remains on steel pipes or other risky conditions exist. After the
preceding conditions no longer exist, the safety director and relevant technical
personnel need to check the involved equipment. Operators can begin
working only after obtaining consent.
● When working at heights, comply with local relevant laws and regulations.
● Only trained and qualified personnel are allowed to work at heights.
● Before working at heights, check the climbing tools and safety gears such as
safety helmets, safety belts, ladders, springboards, scaffolding, and lifting
equipment. If they do not meet the requirements, take corrective measures or
disallow working at heights.
● Wear personal protective equipment such as the safety helmet and safety belt
or waist rope and fasten it to a solid structure. Do not mount it on an
insecure moveable object or metal object with sharp edges. Make sure that
the hooks will not slide off.
DANGER
● Set a restricted area and eye-catching signs for working at heights to warn
away irrelevant personnel.
● Carry the operation machinery and tools properly to prevent them from falling
off and causing injuries.
● Personnel involving working at heights are not allowed to throw objects from
the height to the ground, or vice versa. Objects should be transported by tough
slings, hanging baskets, elevated trolleys, or cranes.
● Do not perform operations on the upper and lower layers at the same time. If
unavoidable, install a dedicated protective shelter between the upper and lower
layers or take other protective measures. Do not pile up tools or materials on
the upper layer.
● Ensure that guard rails and warning signs are set at the edges and openings of
the area involving working at heights to prevent falls.
● Do not pile up scaffolding, springboards, or other sundries on the ground under
the area involving working at heights. Do not allow people to stay or pass
under the area involving working at heights.
● Inspect the scaffolding, springboards, and workbenches used for working at
heights in advance to ensure that their structures are solid and not overloaded.
● Dismantle the scaffolding from top down after finishing the job. Do not
dismantle the upper and lower layers at the same time. When removing a part,
ensure that other parts will not collapse.
● Do not loiter when working at heights. Do not sleep at heights.
● Any violations must be promptly pointed out by the site manager or safety
supervisor and the involved personnel must correct their operations. Personnel
who fail to comply with the requirements must stop the operations.
● Operators who violate the safety regulations are responsible for accidents
caused. The supervisor has to bear the responsibility accordingly.
When climbing a ladder, take the following precautions to reduce risks and ensure
safety:
● Keep your body steady.
● Do not climb higher than the fourth rung of the ladder from the top.
● To climb onto a roof, ensure that the ladder top is at least one meter higher
than the roof line, as shown in the following figure.
● Ensure that your body's center of gravity does not shift outside the legs of the
ladder.
Drilling Holes
When drilling holes into a wall or floor, observe the following safety precautions:
NOTICE
Do not drill holes into the equipment. Doing so may affect the electromagnetic
shielding of the equipment and damage components or cables inside. Metal
shavings from drilling may short-circuit boards inside the equipment.
● In an outdoor scenario, you are advised to power on the ESM within 24 hours
after unpacking. If the ESM cannot be powered on in time, place it in a dry
indoor environment without corrosive gas.
● Protect your skin and eyes from ESM electrolyte leakage. If you touch the
electrolyte leakage, wash with clean water immediately and visit a doctor if
the situation is serious.
● Electrolyte overflow may damage the equipment. It will corrode metal parts
and boards, and ultimately damage the boards.
● Protect the ESM from mechanical vibration, collision, punctures, and strong
impact. Otherwise, the ESM may catch fire.
● Do not throw ESMs in fire because this may cause the ESMs to ignite.
● Do not expose batteries at high temperatures or around heat-generating
sources, such as sunlight, fire sources, transformers, and heaters. Overheating
batteries may cause fires or explosions.
● Do not install ESMs in positions where water leakage is likely to occur, such as
areas near air conditioners or cable outlets in the equipment room.
● Do not immerse ESMs in water or expose them to rain.
● Do not operate ESMs or cables during thunderstorms.
● If an ESM is accidentally exposed to water, do not use it. Move it to a safe
place for isolation and apply for spare parts in a timely manner.
● Do not charge a battery when its temperature is below the lower temperature
threshold. Low-temperature and beyond-specification charging may result in
lithium plating, which may cause internal short circuits and safety issues.
● Replacing an ESM with an incorrect model may cause cross current and bias
current, which will trigger ESM protection. Long-time operation with an
incorrect model will result in cell or board faults, which may cause risks such
as fire.
● If the ESM loop is short-circuited, ESM protection will be triggered and the
ESM cannot be charged or discharged. Long-time frequent short circuit can
result in cell or board faults, which may cause risks such as fire.
● An ESM communication failure alarm caused by reasons such as loose
communications cable connection should be handled within 72 hours (default
value, configurable in the range of 8 hours to 720 hours). Otherwise, the ESM
will be internally locked, which may affect the ESM power backup.
● Do not charge or discharge faulty lithium batteries. Store faulty lithium
batteries separately.
Misoperations
The following table lists some misoperations that should be avoided.
Gas Composition
● The ESM is an enclosed battery system and will not release any gases under
normal operations.
● If the ESM is severely misused, for example, being burned or used under
thunderstruck, it may be damaged, resulting in electrolyte leakage. The
electrolyte of organic carbonate nature may produce CO2, CO, and N2 after
being burned.
Battery Recycling
● Dispose of waste batteries in accordance with local laws and regulations. Do
not dispose of batteries as household waste. Improper disposal of batteries
may result in environmental pollution.
● If a battery leaks or is damaged, contact technical support or a battery
recycling company to dispose of the battery.
● If the batteries are out of service life, contact a battery recycling company for
disposal.
● Do not expose waste batteries to high temperatures or direct sunlight.
● Do not expose waste batteries to high humidity or corrosive environments.

● At the ambient temperature of 25°C±2°C, charge the lithium battery to 100% SOC, and
discharge it at 0.5C until undervoltage protection is triggered. During the discharge, use a
high-precision power analyzer to measure the current and Ah value on the electrochemical
cells and record the SOC value and discharge Ah value on the BMS periodically (every 10
minutes is recommended). After the discharge ends, calculate the actual SOC of each record
point based on the actual accumulated discharge power and compare the calculated SOC with
the BMS SOC to verify the accuracy. After four hours of storage, perform the next charge and
discharge cycle (full charge and discharge cycle at 0.1C–0.5C). The SOC accuracy after two
cycles must be within ±5%.
● ESM in sleep mode: The Alarm indicator is off except for reverse-connection protection.

NOTICE
NOTICE
If the Huawei power monitoring module is connected to the ESM for the first
time, the monitoring module will restart automatically because battery
management parameters need to be switched to the ESM.
Step 2 When multiple ESMs connected in parallel are powered on, observe the RUN
indicator on each ESM panel. Communication is normal if the indicator is steady
on and is not established if it blinks fast. Check the communications cables
between ESMs and rectify the fault.
Step 3 When the ESMs are communicating with the monitoring module, check whether
the communication is normal. If the RUN indicator on an ESM is steady on, the
ESM communicates properly with the monitoring module. If the indicator blinks
fast, the communication is interrupted. In this case, check that the
communications cable is properly connected.
Step 4 Observe the ESM for 15 minutes. Ensure that it is working properly (the ALM
indicator is off and the RUN indicator is steady on).

Step 2 Hold down the MANUAL ON/OFF button for 15s for the battery to enter the
maintenance mode. In this mode, all indicators blink, the battery board is
activated, but the battery is not charged or discharged.
Step 3 Connect the cables to the new ESM based on the cable labels.
Step 4 Switch the BAT– battery circuit breaker in the power system to ON or reinstall the
battery fuse using a fuse extracting unit.
Step 5 Hold down the MANUAL ON/OFF button for 15s for the battery to exit the
maintenance mode. The battery is automatically activated and connects to the
power system.

A Warranty Rules
● The Company shall not be liable for any damage to ESMs due to force
majeure (such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, mudslides, lightning strikes,
fires, and wars).
● The Company shall not be liable for any damage to ESMs caused by the
following reasons:
– The operating temperature requirements are not met, the power grid
condition is poor, power outages frequently occur, the site capacity is
expanded, or lithium batteries cannot be fully charged for a long time.
– The lithium battery is damaged, broken, or leaks due to improper
operations or incorrect connection.
– The customer does not recharge the batteries in time and the batteries
are stored longer than the storage term, which causes capacity loss or
irreversible damage to the batteries.
– After the batteries are installed and connected to the system, the
customer does not power on the batteries in time, which causes the
batteries to be overdischarged and thus causes damage to the batteries.
– Damage is caused to batteries because they are not accepted in time due
to customer reasons.
– Damage is caused to batteries because the battery operating
environment or external power parameters do not meet environment
requirements. Examples include operating temperature beyond the
specified range, frequent power grid failures, frequent overdischarge due
to improper maintenance, and long-time low battery capacity due to
capacity expansion.
– The customer changes the ESM use scenarios without notifying the
Company.
– Damage is caused by customers or third parties to batteries, for example,
customers replace or reinstall the ESMs without notifying the Company.
– The customer does not correctly set ESM operating parameters including
but not limited to ESM capacity, number of ESMs, equalized charge
voltage, float charge voltage, charge current limit, and disconnection
voltage.
– The customer does not maintain ESMs based on the operation guide for
the required devices onsite. For example, the customer does not
periodically check whether battery terminal screws are tightened.
– The customer connects extra loads to ESMs.
– The customer uses ESMs with other lithium batteries, causing
acceleration of capacity decrease. For example, the customer uses ESMs
together with lithium batteries of other vendors, with lithium batteries of
different rated capacity, or old and new batteries are mixed.
– ESMs are stolen.
– ESMs whose warranty period expires.
B FAQs
– The LLVD and BLVD voltages of the ESM are set too high.
– The discharge temperature of the ESM is too low.
– The discharge rate of the ESM is too high.
● Solutions:
– Insufficient charge due to incorrect equalized and float charging voltage
settings: Check the charging voltage parameter settings and set the ESM
charging voltage according to the user manual.
– High LLVD and BLVD voltage settings: Check the LLVD and BLVD voltage
parameter settings and set them to the recommended values in the user
manual.
– Low discharge temperature: If the ESM is used in a low-temperature
environment, a heater needs to be installed in the cabinet. The ESM can
be charged after low-temperature protection stops.
– High discharge rate: Expand the capacity of ESMs of the same type at the
site to reduce the ESM discharge rate.
ESM Restart
