Definition
Industrial Training (LI) Industrial training refers to the
placement of students in an organisation to conduct
supervised practical training in the industry in a timely
manner set.

This course is one of the requirements for graduation and


is compulsory to all students. The implementation of
Industrial Training can also be referred to the Policy book
Industrial Training for Institutions of Higher Learning
published by KPT.

Objectives

1. Prepare and expose students to the practices, problems


and challenges within the real world of work.
2. Get the opportunity to apply knowledge, practical skills
and skills softness learned in a real work environment.
3. Increase employment opportunities through
relationships with prospective employers.

Learning Outcomes
The learning outcomes listed below are as learning outcomes
minimum to be completed in an industrial training program.
After the end of the program industrial training, students
can:

Scope
Agreement between the IPT and the organization/company
(organization that accepts students for industrial training) it is
necessary to determine the specific tasks the student is
undergoing related industry training.

The scope of the task should provide opportunities for


students to apply the knowledge and skills learned and gain
exposure work practices in their respective areas of specialization.

Prerequisite

TMF39412 Industrial Training shall be taken by Third Year


(Second Semester) FCSIT undergraduate students from all
programs.
Students who wish to undergo their Industrial Training
course in their Final Semester should obtain Dean’s
permission by writing a formal letter, through and
supported by the Program Coordinator, and attaching their
study plan.
The prerequisite courses are:

Placement (1/2)
Students must undergo an industrial training program at an
organisation certified by faculty in a field related to the study.

Students must discuss with the Industrial Training Coordinators


(PLI) at their respective faculty respectively to find industrial
training places.

The proposed organisation/company where students will


undergo industrial training must be approved by the respective
faculties;

University-Industry Center (UnIC) at UNIMAS will work together


with the faculty to coordinate all industrial training placement
matters.

Students who have received an offer of an industrial training


place from an organisation or in UNIMAS are NOT ALLOWED to
reject an offer without permission from the faculty and UnIC

Placement (2/2)
All applications from UNIMAS students for training industries in
various Centres or Pusat Tanggungjawab (PTj) in UNIMAS shall be
submitted to UnIC for processing. UnIC will identify PTj who
agree to accept students. This subject to vacancy, sufficient
space, and field suitability of student studies before placing
them.

Students can choose industrial training mode according to the


track follows:

i. Industry Attachment Track (Outside company / UNIMAS)


ii. Research & Project-Based Track
iii. Entrepreneurship Track (Not offered)
iv. Community Project Track (Not offered)

Leave
Each student must follow the training schedule set by the
faculty and organisation. Students who need to take leave
(except sick leave) for a variety of reasons inevitably must
apply for permission from the organisation first.

The Industrial Training Coordinator (PLI) must be informed


of the leave, and entries must be made in the Industrial
Training Log Book.

Students taking sick leave must inform the organisation and


PLI by email or letter and submit a medical certificate from a
registered clinic to the organisation and a copy to the faculty
and UnIC.

Exchanging Internship Placement

1. Students are NOT allowed to change industrial training


places WITHOUT approval written from PLI.
2. Any application for a change of industrial training place
must be attached with good reason. Students need to
discuss with PLI and UnIC before deciding to quit as well
as the selection of a new organization.
3. Students who have been granted approval to change
industrial training places are required to inform the
organization /company and the reason for the change.
4. If a student has been terminated by the organization
for any reason, the student must inform PLI and UnIC.

Allowance

Payment of industrial training allowance is at the discretion of the


organization/company. The faculty does not provide any training
allowance to students who undergo Industrial training.

Safety, Health and Insurance Coverage

Students must adhere to the Standard Operating


Procedures (SOP )set by the organisation including safety
and health-related matters at organizations where students
undergo industrial training.

Students need to notify PLI and UnIC via email if they are
involved in an accident at work.

All UNIMAS students are covered by insurance for the


duration of their studies they are at UNIMAS and also at
industrial training places.

Discipline (1/2)

Throughout the period of industrial training, students are subject


to the University Act and University College 1971 (Amendment
2009); IPTS Act 1996 (Act 555); and the Education Act (Act 550).
Students are also required to adhere to the followingrules while
undergoing the program industrial training:

Students must always be disciplined and maintain the


organisation's good name throughout the period of industrial
training.

Adhere to working hours and all rules in the same organization


as other staff in the organisation.

Any delay in attending the industrial training place is not


allowed except with reasonable grounds and should be notified to
the supervisor organizations/companies and PLIs.

Discipline (2/2)

Contact the organization immediately if unable to attend due to


emergency or sick leave and record in a log book as well as
inform PLI.

Do not take time off during industrial training except with the
approval of the relevant organisation.

Not divulge secrets or give the organization's confidential


information to anyone parties during and after undergoing
industrial training.

Students should practice a responsible attitude while handling


equipment and assets of the organization to ensure no damage
is caused by negligence.

Always dress neatly in accordance with the conditions and rules


in the organization.

Pre Internship Training

1. A briefing session will be conducted by Industrial Training


Coordinator in the middle of each semester. All news,
announcement and info will be published the eLeap site. LI
Coordinators will use eLeap as a platform to disseminate
relevant information about the Industrial Training course.
2. Students are required to search and apply for a company of
their choice that offers internships related to their respective
programs
3. Students then are required to upload their resume and fill up the
form to apply for FCSIT Industrial Training Placement letter at
FCSIT’s LI System (https://fcsitli.ia.unimas.my).
4. The LI Coordinators will determine if the applicant company is
suitable. The application would be denied if the coordinators
deemed the applicant's company unsuitable.
5. Obtain the completed Offer Letter from the organisation that
offered you a place for training and return it to the coordinator
via the FCSIT LI system in order to obtain the FCSIT LI-2 Form
(i.e. Report Duty form) and completed the Non-Disclosure
Agreement Form at FCSIT’s LI System.
6. No changes of placement are allowed after this document is
issued. In the case of multiple offers, the student is required to
politely reject the rest once the student has accepted a
particular offer.

During Internship (1/2)

Once the students have reported for duty, students are


considered to have secured an internship placement. They need,
to update the details of the Industrial Training – Application for
Placement at UNIMAS LI System
(https://estudent.unimas.my/PenyeliaanPelajar/), using Mozilla
Firefox or Google Chrome.

The details include the name of the company/organization, its


address/website, and the industrial supervisor’s name and
position. As for “Organisation Email”, the students need to key in the
supervisor’s email.

Next, the students need to complete their University Online


Registration for the course Industrial Training in the specific week
allocated, 14 – 17th March 2023 (subject to changes) for that
particular semester.

During internship (2/2)

Students' activities in the log book need to update through the


UNIMAS LI System using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome at
https://estudent.unimas.my/PenyeliaanPelajar/. Upload the
hardcopy log book signed by the company supervisor monthly
(assuming one month is equivalent to four weeks), that is a total
of SIX signatures are required for the duration of 24 weeks.

Industrial Training Portal: Students must keep all their uploaded


files' names short and simple. If the students wish to update any
file that has been uploaded, name the new file name the same as
the old file.

The system will automatically update the new file and show only the
latest one. The portal caters for all university students, so it is
advisable for the students to keep each file size as small as
possible.

Post Internship(1/2)

Company Supervisor
Each company supervisor is required to complete their student's
evaluation through an online form. The coordinators will use the
“Organisation Email” that the students provided in eStudent to
send a Form link to respective supervisors.

The filled form must be submitted to the FCSIT Industrial Training


Coordinator 7 days before the completion of the internship
period.

In the case that Online Form could not be completed by your


supervisor, he/she could send the hardcopy form through :

Post Internship(2/2)

Monitoring & Visiting Supervisor


One of the lecturers from FCSIT, UNIMAS may visit the student
within the period given. The assigned lecturer will contact the
student prior to meeting the student in person at the specific
date, time and venue agreed upon by both parties, with the
presence of the company supervisor if possible.

Students will be required to give a brief presentation on what they


have been doing throughout the internship period. If the
monitoring & visiting session cannot be carried out, a remote
mode of a telephone call or video call would replace the face-to-
face meeting.

The assigned monitoring & visiting supervisor is responsible for


assessing the student's Industrial Training report and log book,
through the Industrial Training portal.

GARIS PANDUAN MENJALANI LATIHAN INDUSTRI BERDASARKAN TREK INDUSTRI

1. Pengenalan

Latihan Industri berdasarkan trek industri adalah penempatan latihan industri bagi
pelajar UNIMAS di:
a) Syarikat/Industri di dalam atau luar Malaysia; atau
b) Pusat Tanggungjawab (Fakulti / Bahagian / Pusat / Institut) di dalam UNIMAS

2. Skop

A) Pelaksanaan LI di luar UNIMAS

i. Syarikat/Industri yang dipilih haruslah disemak dahulu oleh pelajar dan mendapat nasihat
daripada Fakulti.
ii. Pelajar tidak dibenarkan menjalani LI di mana-mana organisasi yang diragui
pengoperasiannya dan dijangka tidak memperoleh sebarang faedah daripadanya.
iii. Cadangan tempat bagi menjalani LI hendaklah disediakan beserta justifikasi ringkas
pemilihan tempat tersebut.
iv. Pelajar TIDAK dibenarkan menjalani latihan industri di bawah seliaan ahli keluarga
terdekat bagi mengelakkan konflik peribadi dalam penilaian tugas sepanjang tempoh LI.
v. Pelajar TIDAK dibenarkan menukar tempat menjalani LI tanpa sebab yang munasabah.
vi. Pemberian elaun menjalani LI tertakluk kepada budi bicara organisasi terlibat.

B) Pelaksanaan LI di dalam UNIMAS

i. Permohonan menjalani LI di dalam UNIMAS hendaklah melalui Fakulti sebelum


dihantar ke UnIC.
ii. Permohonan menjalani LI di dalam UNIMAS hendaklah menjadi pilihan terakhir bagi
pelajar menjalani LI
iii. Permohonan menjalani LI di UNIMAS hendaklah disertakan dengan bukti penolakan
menjalani LI di organisasi lain
iv. Pelajar yang menjalani LI di dalam UNIMAS TIDAK akan menerima sebarang
elaun.

v. Pelajar TIDAK dibenarkan menjalani latihan industri di bawah seliaan ahli keluarga
terdekat bagi mengelakkan konflik peribadi dalam penilaian tugas sepanjang tempoh LI.
vi. Pelajar yang telah diterima menjalani LI di dalan UNIMAS, TIDAK
dibenarkan menolak penempatan LI tanpa sebab yang munasabah.

3. Pelaporan LI

Pelajar yang menjalani LI berdasarkan track ini hendaklah mengisi pelaporan dengan
lengkap seperti yang ditetapkan di dalam Sistem Penyeliaan LI.

GARIS PANDUAN MENJALANI LATIHAN INDUSTRI BERDASARKAN TREK
RESEARCH & PROJECT BASED

1. Pengenalan

Latihan Industri berdasarkan trek research & project based boleh dilaksanakan
dengan kaedah penempatan pelajar bersama:
a) Geran Kajian;
b) Konsultansi; atau
c) Contract Research

2. Skop

i. Pelajar hendaklah mencadangkan senarai kajian yang memerlukan LI kepada


Penyelia LI.
ii. Pelajar tidak dibenarkan menjalani LI di bawah kajian yang tidak berdaftar
dengan mana-mana pihak.
iii. Kajian yang dipilih hendaklah merupakan kajian yang aktif.
iv. Pelajar perlu menyediakan kertas cadangan berdasarkan perkara di bawah:
- Jenis kajian yang hendak dijalankan/sedang dijalankan
- Cadangan nama penyelia dalaman dilantik dalam kalangan pensyarah
Fakulti
- Nama ketua penyelidik dan kajian yang dijalankan
- Pelajar perlu menyediakan tentatif aktiviti harian pelajar seperti di
Lampiran 2 (Trek Research)
v. Kertas cadangan tersebut perlu disertakan bersama surat permohonan LI.
vi. Pelajar TIDAK dibenarkan menjalani latihan industri di bawah seliaan ahli keluarga
terdekat bagi mengelakkan konflik peribadi dalam penilaian tugas sepanjang
tempoh LI.
vii. Pemberian elaun menjalani LI tertakluk kepada budi bicara ketua penyelidik yang
terlibat.

3. Pelaporan LI
Pelajar yang menjalani LI berdasarkan track ini hendaklah mengisi
pelaporan dengan lengkap seperti yang ditetapkan di dalam Sistem
Penyeliaan LI.

Pelajar boleh mendapatkan nasihat dan maklumat lanjut daripada pihak UnIC

TMF39412: INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

INDUSTRIAL TRAINING REPORT & LOG BOOK (60%)

FINAL DATE:

1. Students are required to write a report on the experience throughout the


entire duration of their industrial training.

2. The report format must be as followed:

• Front Page (ONLY use the front page provided below)


• Font: Times New Roman
• Font Size: 12pt
• Spacing: 1.5 line spacing
• Neat and professional
• No less than 50 pages long (front page and appendix not included)

3. Student may write


• Task descriptions and samples of work
• Reflection (what you have learned throughout the industrial training,
workplace team dynamics, challenges faced and suggestions)

4. The report is a reflection. Student may narrate their entire experience


throughout their industrial training duration. Figures/Diagrams are needed
as proof in the report.

5. This report will be graded alongside the logbook:


• Industrial Training Report 40%
• Log Book 20% (print the approved logbook report from LI System)

1 Report Writing Guidelines

The final report for Industrial Training should be written in English. The length of the report should
not exceed 50 pages, excluding appendices. The entirety of the final report must be uniform and
consistent.

1.2 Final Report Contents

The final report consists of THREE (3) main parts which are:

All of these three main parts must be organized and given page number accordingly based on the

1.2.1 SECTION I: Report Introduction

The report introduction consists of several components (or pages) including title page, declaration,
acknowledgement, disclaimer, executive summary/abstract, table of contents, list of tables, list of
figures and abbreviations.

i) Title Page (refer Appendix D)

This page consists of the following information:


(i) Full project title (middle of the page)
(ii) Place of Industrial Training (bottom of the page)

The title must explain the main project and the maximum length is up to 15 words.

ii) Declaration (refer Appendix E)

This page consists of the following items:


i. Short declaration statement and course code (at the top page)
ii. Student’s name and matric number (in the middle of the page)

iii) Acknowledgement

This page contains the acknowledgement to all parties (individuals or institutions) who assist in the
project implementation. The acknowledgement must be simple and concise.

iv) Disclaimer (refer Appendix F)

This page contains statement to claim validity and copyright of the report contents. Student needs
to write down the student’s name and matric number.
v) Executive Summary (Abstract)

Executive Summary is the essence of the whole report and needs to be given a special attention as
main text. References should not be cited in the Executive Summary, but if it is necessary, use
footnote. Avoid from using any abbreviations or acronyms.

Executive Summary should not exceed 300 words. It must contain fact-specific issues, a brief
explanation of the project; main findings including the facts that are significant (or not) and
conclusion. This summary should be typed in single spacing in only one page, and one paragraph.

Example: ABSTRACT

Online management system is one of a web-based application that could help


organizations in enhancing their productivity, encouraging greater customer
participation, and enabling mass customization, besides reducing costs. Online
management system or electronic management can be defined as a process to manage
data, information and making communication through the Internet. The process could
be implemented in different categories of technology such as real-time system, web-
based system, and mobile applications. Thus, the journal management system has
great potential to be integrated with the web application. With the need for faster
publishing process and complexity of management process, an online management
system for journal is proposed.
vi) Table of Contents

Table of Contents should follow the order, with relevant page number, all section and sub-section,
topic and sub-topic; list of references, acronyms and others overall report function; appendices and
indices (if any).

Report contents should consist of four main chapters namely Introduction, Project Description,
Overall Experience and Conclusion. At the end of each chapter (except chapter conclusion), a
summary of the chapter should be provided to formulate ideas/body of the chapter. The following is

Chapter 4: Conclusion
i) Chapter 1: Introduction

Introduction should include two main topics; the organization background and an overall observation
of the entire organization. Organization background contains basic information such as a brief
organization history, management, objective, organization mission and vision. Overall observation
covers overall aspect of organization specialization and roles. Discussion of related topics should
not exceed two pages each respectively.
ii) Chapter 2: Project Description

Chapter 2 covers detail explanation on the MAIN project. This chapter explains in detail the
involvement of the student in the project according to the production phase. The explanation
should come together with related deliverables such as the storyboard and script, screen
capture of the system, event picture etc. Media Interactive projects may include description
on the design of the system and the technical specification.

For this section, student should write up on the reflection of what they have learnt and
experienced during the execution of the project/tasks.

iii) Chapter 3: Overall Experience

Chapter 3 aims to report the activities or other project (besides the main project as reported in
Chapter 2) throughout the Industrial Training. In this chapter, relevant activities/projects should be
listed and explained clearly. Students also need to report any problem encountered throughout the
Industrial Training.

In addition, students need to explain whether the Industrial Training has achieved its objectives. This
chapter should also include a section on reflection whereby the student learning
outcomes/experiences based on their practicum experiences being clearly explained in detail.
Students may highlight or provide feedback on the effectiveness of the knowledge they have gained
from the program in helping them undergo the industrial training.

iv) Chapter 4: Conclusion

Conclusion is the summation of all chapters. Students need to provide clear and solid conclusion
that reflects project done during the Industrial Training.

Note:
In this chapter, explanation/description on how the Industrial Training meets the objective should be
included.
1.2.3 SECTION III: References/Bibliography and Appendices

Section III covers the provision of list of bibliography and appendices. Both items are important to
provide readers with a referral or obtain additional declaration on the matter.

i) References/Bibliography

Bibliography should follow the provided format and style. Entries in the reference should follow one
of the following formats:

• IEEE/ACM format (http://standards.ieee.org/guides/style/) for BSc. (Hons) MM OR


• APA format (http://www.apastyle.org/) for any programme

ii) Appendices

If any, appendices need to be attached after the references. Details of the attachment should be
listed in the table of contents. Page number is needed in every appendix. If there is more than one,
use letter A, B, C, and D at the beginning of the title of each appendix. Every new appendix must
start with new page. Some good examples for appendices are:

• Gantt chart/project planning
• Source code
• Organization chart, etc.
