The 8-point compass shows directions.

 Cardinal points/directions
The four main points of the compass-- north (N), east (E), south (S), and west (W) at 90°

angles on the compass --are called the cardinal points.

 Intercardinal points/directions
Midway between the cardinal points are the intercardinal points---northeast (NE),
southeast (SE), southwest (SW) and northwest (NW).
