4 - INSTALLATION

In accordance with the EMC, it is imperative to follow the following connection instruction.

A - Contents and use ot the accessory kit.

Screened motor cable :

It is used to supply power to the motor (a maximum distance of 6 meters between the SODIVAR
and the motor is possible).

The screening must absolutely be attached at both ends.

The remaining cable (10 m supplied) is used to power the SODIVAR.

The power supply and the motor cables must be separated.

Multicore screened cable :

It is used to connect the SODIVAR and the lift controller.

The screening must absolutely be attached at both ends.

This cable is not used when the SODIVAR is already in the lift controller
(SODICIEL for example).

Resistance shielded cable :

This cable serves to connect the exterior buffer resistance.

The screening must absolutely be attached at both ends.

Earth bonding :

This is used on 360° of the cable screening to create a connection with the earth.

It must be as short as possible (15 cm max).

Screened collars:

These are used to clamp the flat earth-bonding strip to the screened cable.

Push connectors:

For the separate cabinets, these are arranged on the panel at the back of the cabinets depending
on the holes.

Buffer resistance:

It should be, if possible be fixed horizontally to help with the heat dissipation.

It is used to dissipate the energy during braking. If a problem occurs, check the value in
the following table.

VF power 18,5 kW
4 kW 5,5 kW 11 kW

6 - COMMISSIONING

A - METHOF OF SETTING UP

The first time the SODIVAR unit is powered with the motor connected, the motor parameters
must be measured to obtain the optimum drive configuration after the motor specifications
have been entered.

It is imperative that this calibration is carried out to avoid poor functioning.

This calibration has to be carried out again if the motor, lift adaptation card or ALTIVAR
58 is replaced.

Refer to the measurement procedure ( Page 15).

B - MOTOR SPECIFICATIONS

Despite the optimised factory setting, it is desirable to enter the parameters that you find on the
motor data plate. The values are programmed using the menu 3 / drive (Page 22).

The parameters to enter are:

Motor voltage

Nominal voltage 380/400 V

Asynchronous speed (1500 & 1000 RPM are not asynchronous speed)

COS j motor

If certain parameters are not indicated on the data plate, leave the factory settings.

(*) For the parameter, some manufacturers put the synchronous speed on the engine
plate (1500 RPM or 1000 RPM). If such is the case, leave the factory set parameters at 1380
RPM (for 1500 RPM) and put 900 RPM if the plate indicates 1000 RPM (on many motors,
this value is marked as «GIRI»).

7 - INITIAL ADJUSTMENT

Slowing distance in the shaft

Speed Distance in mm Minimum distance Standard distance
in m/s (maximum comfort) in mm in mm

0,6 1000 700 900

1 1500 1200 1300
1,2 2100 1600 1900
1,6 2700 2100 2400

Extrapolate to obtain the intermediate levels.

Depending on the condition of installation, these distances can be modified :

It should be note that:

The slowing distance must be set the same in the upward direction as in the downward, similarly
at each floor level.

Longer is the slowing distance, higher is the level of comfort.

The use of a short slowing distance can reduce the comfort level, due to the mechanical elasticity of
the lift system. Also, overshooting of the floor due to insufficient braking.

Note : in the setting up the following order must be observed.

1 - Adjust the slowing distances, identical everywhere.

2 - Adjust the slowing value of the SODIVAR while going upwards with no load.
(MENU 8 / APPLICATION PAGE 23 / FOR OPEN LOOP).

If after switching to slow speed, the lift is too slow arriving at floor level, increase

gently the slowing time by increments of 0.1 s (parameters AND/OR in open loop),

In the opposite case, reduce preferably the parameter

ET/OU (do not go below 1 s).

8 - MEASURING THE MOTOR PARAMETERS

When the installation is put into operation for the first time, the following operation described below
must be carried out after entering the motor specifications.

This measurement is imperative for the correct functioning of the installation and is carried out once
only.

- Leave the SODIVAR unit under power

- Enter Menu 3 / Drive (Page 22) ENT

- Go down the menu using the arrows until the parameter and press ENT

- With the arrows go to YES

ENT
- Using a screwdriver, manually close the two contacts on the line CL1 and CL2.
ENT
- When CL1 and CL2 are closed, press ENT , and the SODIVAR should display DONE. If
not, restart the procedure.

During this measurement procedure, a slight noise can be heard. This is the current of the SODIVAR unit
being sent to the motor to measure its stator resistance and similarly its inductance.

NB: If the motor and/or the SODIVAR are replaced, this measurement should be done after replacement.

PRESET SP.2-HZ This is the inspection speed for the lift set.
In the factory (18 Hz ) corresponds to :
18 Hz
- 0.60 m/s for a lift of a speed up to 1.60 m/s
( 10 -> 50 )
- 0.36 m/s for a lift of a speed up to 1.00 m/s
- 0.22 m/s for a lift of a speed up to 0.60 m/s
These values should be increased in the case of a motor which has
a lot of "slip" at low speed.

SLIP COMP.-% Permits the compensation for the motor slip.

In the case of a slow speed the slip speed is lower as
100 %
with an empty car therefore this value can be increased slightly
( 80 -> 130 )
(by 5%). This value allows the same approach speed whether
going upwards or downwards with a full or empty lift car.
It also allows an accurate floor leveling.

.

Depending on the appreciation of the comfort and the mechanical characteristics

of the system (elasticity), you can modify independently the 3 parameters to find the
best compromise for the installation.

This is a parameter which enables the lift to travel a small floor distance. It is used 5
when the lift car cannot reach full speed between 2 floors. ( 5 -> 49 )
For example: speed = 0.60 m/s inter floor distance = 500 mm or speed = 1.60 m/s inter
floor distance = 3 m.

This parameter is in effect the maximum speed (in Hz) which can be reached with the
inter floor distance. In sequential practice the attributed output enables automatic
upholding of the full speed by the controller as long as the frequency threshold
(output D0 ) is not reached. When carrying out the adjustment at the smallest inter floor
distance, the parameter must be increased gradually to avoid decelerating too late and
thereby overshooting the floor. The sequence of this output is shown in an easily
understandable manner on the schematic diagram delivered with the equipment.

12 - MISCELLANEOUS / PROBLEMS / RECOMMENDATIONS

A / MISCELLANEOUS

- First time use of full speed

So as to verify the slowing selection when full speed is first used, it is possible to enter by programming
a lower full speed value.

(Adjustment menu2, parameter ). Note: make sure that this value is not lower than the frequency
threshold value. (Menu 8 / Parameter 17).

- Check the «double journey» / SODIVAR

After the controller gives the command to move press the STOP
key of the SODIVAR (the
RESET
red led flashes)

This action blocks the SODIVAR thereby allowing the time for double journey timer to work.

- Check the balance

ENT
- Load halfENT
the contract load into the lift car
- Go to Menu 1 / Supervision
- With the key, go to the parameter and press ENT
- Check there is no more than 0.5 amp difference between going upwards or downwards at midcourse
- Check the braking

Despite the electrical stopping in function in normal VF functioning, the mechanical braking has to be
checked after the safety circuit is cut or there is a power failure.

B / PROBLEMS

– Brake
If you see that the brake is still «on» at the moment of starting, check that you have not entered 1500
or 1000 RPM in Menu 3 / Parameter .

Remember, you must enter the asynchronous speed.

This difference can create a fault.

– Sequence

If, when stopped, you see that the brake contactor drops at the same time as the motor line contactors,
it means that the electrical stop is not functioning correctly. Generally, the start of the safety sequence
(door opening, cam dropping, etc.) occurs before the SODIVAR (D01 adaptor card output) has itself
dropped the line contactors. There must always be a minimum difference of approximately 200 ms
compared to the brake.

– Current

When descending empty, or rising fully loaded, check that the current read in the menu monitoring 1
is less than or equal to the current given on the motor data plate. (Take readings with the appliance at
stable speed (not in acceleration or deceleration). Otherwise, review the motor parameters, the balance,
and the motor or SODIVAR power supplies.

– Resetting

If you notice abnormal and erratic behaviour when functioning, complete resetting may be necessary
before beginning special adjustments. This operation makes it possible to reset the VF (low speed)
block and download the adaptor card programmes again.

To carry out this operation:

1 – Cut the main current and wait two minutes (also cut the safety device to the manoeuvring
switchbox, to avoid startup).

2 – Open the door of the SODIVAR, remove the three screws holding the adaptor card (terminal
block and software marked SODIMAS).

3 – Extract the card SODIMAS by pulling towards you without disconnecting it.

4 – Restore the mains voltage.

5 – Press twice on ENT . Only the green LED will remain lighted.

6 – Cut the current and wait two minutes.

7 – Put the adaptor card back and restore the current.

8 – Restore all the motor parameters, check the motor readings.

B –Closed loop option with encoder feedback

1 – GENERAL

For optimum performance, it is recommended to work with a motor return speed, using a pulse encoder
on the motor giving the exact position of the rotor in real time.

This type of functioning has very good dynamic accuracy as well as 150% torque at zero speed. This
option is generally used for high-speed machines.

This chapter only concerns differences with regard to chapter A «open loop». For the other
specifications, refer to chapter A.

2 – TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS AND CHOICE OF ENCODER

A – TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

See A except for:

Speed range:. . . . . . . . . . . 1 to 1,000 (1 to 100 in open loop)

Speed accuracy:. . . . . . . . . +/- 0.02% of the nominal speed (+/- 1% in open loop)

B – CHOICE OF ENCODER

Remember: The encoder (called digital generator input or encoder) must be fixed on the end of the
motor shaft or the fast reducer shaft. Whatever the case, it must turn at the motor speed and be fixed
so that there is no vibration during rotation.

Incremental optical encoder with differential 5 volt or standard RS422 outputs, maximum consumption
= 200 mA

The choice of resolution must comply with two limits:

- Electrical limit: maximum frequency 200 KHz at high speed

- Limit of programmable value: 500 to 5000 points/revs. (factory setting is 1024 points/revs.).

It is preferable to use encoders with factory-installed cable output. Otherwise, connect it with three
twisted pairs at a pitch between 25 and 50 mm. Connect the shielding to earth at both ends. The
recommended length must be less than 10 metres for a minimum section of 0.2 mm∑ or AWG24.

3 – PRESENTATION

4 – INSTALLATION

– See chapter A (functioning in open loop).

– Both ends of the braid of the encoder cable must be connected to the earth. On the SODIVAR
side, a screw is provided for this on the controller terminal block.

5 – LAYOUT

– See chapter A (page 11)

6 – COMMISSIONING

– See chapter A (page 13)

Be careful about the direction for connecting the encoder (see page 39 «Problems in closed
loop»). To begin with, the appliance may be started in open loop (without encoder) by
modifying the parameter (Menu 3 ).

7 – PRELIMINARY ADJUSTMENTS

– See chapter A (page 35) except for the following: After selecting and adjusting the distance
for deceleration in the conduit, the parameter in the SODIVAR for adjusting the deceleration
curve is found in Menu 2 Adjustments / parameter dEC 2 (and not in Menu 8).

Reminder about installation adjustments.

1 – Adjust the selected distance for slowing in the conduit identically.

2 – Adjust the SODIVAR deceleration setting to obtain approximately 10 cm approach before

stopping at the level.

8 – PROGRAMMING PRINCIPLE

– See chapter A (page 16)

9 – MEASURING MOTOR PARAMETERS WITH THE SODIVAR

– See chapter A (page 15) except for:

– The measurement time is longer and it is important to wait for the end of the measurement
until the word «DONE» appears.

Important: If you change reactor, motor, SODIVAR or VF (low speed) setting, the measurement
must be done again.

10 – DEFINITION OF MEASUREMENTS AND PARAMETERS

This paragraph only concerns parameters useful for installation. For the other parameters,
refer to chapter A «open loop». To access these parameters, use the arrows or until
the desired parameter appears.

2-ADJUST

Factory Customer
Parameters Code Function
settings settings

ACCELERATION Acceleration value between start and the frequency of low speed.
3,5 s
To be increased in case of sudden starts.
( 1 -> 7 )

DECELERATION To be adjusted in Menu 8 – APPLICATION / Parameters 013.

10 s
Value at the end of deceleration (between the approach speed and
( 4 -> 30 )
stop).
This parameter makes sure that the final stop is comfortable.
ACCELERATE 2-S Acceleration time for the lift to go to high speed. 4
Caution, this time takes into account the ramp roundings. ( 1-> 10 )

DECELERATE 2 - S This is deceleration of the lift between high speed and approach speed.
2
Decrease if the slowing distance in the conduit is insufficient (sudden
stop) and increase if the approach time at low speed to the level is
( 1,5-> 4 )
too long.

BEG ACC RND. - % Percentage of the first ramp rounding (starting)

(Percentage of 100% to share with TA2)

END ACC RND. - % Percentage ramp rounding from the end of acceleration to the nominal
speed (Percentage of 100% to share with TA1)

BEG DEC RND. - % Percentage ramp rounding between the nominal speed and the start of
deceleration (Percentage of 100% to share with TA4)

END DEC RND. - % Percentage ramp rounding between the end of deceleration and the
approach speed (Percentage of 100% to share with TA3)

GAIN - % Parameter providing the dynamics to the motor. It influences the stop
accuracy and correct concordance with the speed settings. If the value
(15->40)
is too high, the motor will tend to vibrate and be noisy. If this happens,
lower the value until the motor noise lessens.

STABILITY - % Parameter making it possible to absorb the above gain.

This makes it possible to eliminate oscillations at low speed and at

(15->25)
transient speed phases. If the motor tends to be noisy, proceed as for
the Gain by decreasing the parameter.

BR ENGAGE TIME-HZ When stopped, it is the duration of zero speed (0) in the motor, for 0,5 s
compensating the mechanical delay when the brake jaws drop. After (0,1 -> 1)
this time, the output D01 for dropping the line contactors will be active.

The motor parameters such as: and the motor measurement must be the same
as those for "open loop" (page 22). They must be adjusted before any other parameter.

CONTROL MODE This parameter is for confirming the use of the encoder
"closed loop" as well as parameters associated with the
"closed loop". By activating the "open loop", it is possible to Closed
not use the function with the encoder. When starting, this makes loop
it easier to check the correct direction of movement of the
appliance (provisional start) and to detect any problems on the
encoder and the connections on both sides (SODIVAR cable and
special numbering card).
1024 tr
ENC PULSE NO Number of pulses per revolution in the encoder. (500 -> 8000)
Value to be checked on the encoder before commissioning.

C - MENU 8 / APPLICATIONS

In this menu, the parameters and/or

ET/OU
ET/OU are no longer used for adjusting the valid deceleration time
for the «open loop» (it is the parameters of the Adjustments menu that will be used).

8-APPLICATION

Factory Client
Code Definition
setting setting

Value of deceleration between the approach speed and stop. This configuration 10 s
makes the final stop comfortable (exaggerated time will disrupt the traffic flow). ( 2 -> 30 )

Parameter for passing short levels (see explanation in chapter "open loop".

11 – MAINTENANCE / FAULTS

See fault chart in chapter A (page 25)

12 – MISCELLANEOUS / PROBLEMS / ADVICE

See also chapter A «open loop».

IMPORTANT:

– Encoder direction

In «closed loop», there is one chance in two that the direction of the encoder compared with the rotation
of the motor (therefore the movement of the cabin) is correct. If the direction is not correct, the motor is
overloaded and the behaviour is abnormal (deflection, low speed, motor noise, etc.).

If this is the case, a simple method for identifying the problem is to check the parameter motor
current in the menu Monitoring on startup. If the current is high (around 1.5 x I nominal), it means
that the encoder is not in the correct direction compared with the desired movement. If this is the case,
change the connection on the terminal block of the control card by reversing the terminals.

- A and B then A and B

Note: A too high setting for gain and stability (MENU 2 / ADJUSTMENTS ) may bring about
the same abnormal behaviour as an encoder the wrong way round. If this is the case, begin to lower these
values and check the correct direction of the encoder.

- On certain encoders, the name is different. The A becomes CO and the B becomes C1.

- Optimisation

If the cos ϕ or the asynchronous motor speed is not given on the plate and you want a perfectly optimised
adjustment, please use the methods described below:

1) Current when empty (adjusted by the cos ϕ , DRIVE menu)

Operate the lift with medium load, frequency = nominal frequency / 2 (HSP / 2 = 25 Hz), then adjust the
cos ϕ (to obtain the motor voltage = nominal voltage / 2 (parameter UOP in the MONITORING menu).

Example: A motor 400V 50 Hz – adjust cos j to obtain 200V at 25 Hz.

- If UOP is less than 200V, decrease the cos j

- If UOP is greater than 200V, increase the cos j

2) Nominal motor slip (adjustable through the nominal speed nSP, DRIVE menu and SLP, ADJUST-
MENTS menu

Method to use if the exact motor asynchronous speed is not known:

- Operate at approximately the rated load motor torque (down and empty), frequency = nominal frequency
/ 2, then adjust SLP so as to obtain the lowest motor current (parameter LCr in the MONITORING menu
close to the nominal current).
