name is Abi and I run the account @holler.academy
on Instagram! (follow if ya don't already, we post
daily IG tips & tricks!!)

I've grown this account to over 104,000+ followers -


and I wanted to write this free guide to show you
exactly how you can do it too!

When you don't have a niche, or your niche isn't defined enough, people can
mistake you for being a personal account, and will not follow you out of
respect, or unease

The majority of accounts on Instagram are not creators, Influencers, or businesses -


but in fact, just ordinary people using it as a social networking site. The main purpose
for their Instagram account is to keep up with their friends and family, and occasionally
post about what they're doing too.

When we come across these accounts, is almost as though there is an unwritten rules
that we don't follow them. For the same reason that we don't add people we don't know
on Facebook. It seems intrusive, like we're snooping on the private life of a stranger.
We feel uninvited. We don't feel as though we should be following them.

ASKYOURSELF:
Do you have any Interests/Desires that you could talk about endlessly?

Are you in a particular industry? Are you an expert at anything?


What could you teach?

Is there a particular theme that is already running strong amongst the majority
of your existing content that you could strengthen and run with more?

Is there a trending topic, industry or niche that you could capitalise on

One of the most important things you need to do at the start of your
IG career is making sure your account is optimised for discoverability
& growth!

Take a good hard look at your profile, and ask yourself:


Does this explain clearly what I do?
Does this give people a reason to follow me?
Is this clear and niche?
Is it clear who I'm posting for?
THE PERFECT PROFILE PICTURE
Your profile picture is the first thing new potential followers and customers will see when landing on your page. And this is what they will
associate you with - so make sure it's relevant! If you're a business coach - dress smart and opt for a professional headshot! If you're a
personal trainer - show yourself at the gym! Here are some general Do's and Don't's when it comes to selecting your profile pic!

PEOPLE
Understanding your audience is one of the key elements of success on
Instagram. You need to be able to know example who your followers are, in
order to build a relationship, understanding and responsiveness to them.

The best way the discover who your audience are, is to build a follower persona. Think
about who your ideal audience are, what demographics they fall under, how old they
might be, what their hobbies and interests are.

We can start to find and understand who our ideal followers are a little more, by
exploring 'segmentation'.

a 'segmentation grid' the grid is split into 4 aspects of your ideal or potential audience.

One way to grow your account is to go out and
actively engage with the ideal followers that
we identified earlier

'engaging' means interacting with other


peoples accounts. This could come in the form
of: likes, saves, shares, comments, story
replies, and direct messages.

Let's look at how to use engagement for


growth.

Whenever your competitors post - make sure you comment on their posts in case other
accounts notice your account in the comments. Visit the pages of others that comment
too. If they are commenting, then they are invested in that account and find it valuable.
This way you know they are not just passive followers. Head to their account and
engage with the content that you find interesting. A good course to follow is to leave
meaningful comments on 2-3 of their posts, and reply to their story with a reaction or
message.

Repeat the same process for ideal hashtags.

If you would like to make this process easier, you can use software to help you, such as
the Google Chrome extension 'Dollar Eighty' - which prompts you to leave 90 meaningful
comments a day.

Let's talk about creating a content strategy that works for you, and provides value
for your audience. In order to create a high-converting content strategy, you need
to first understand and implement three key things:

A pretty picture may stop the scroll - but to make sure that your followers
engage with your posts, and start to know, like, and trust you - make sure your

GROWING MORE!
There are many ways an account can grow on Instagram in 2023 and I
say this with all my heart - never listen to anybody who tells you that
there is only one, or that you need to be making a certain type of
content type if you want to grow. It's just simply not true.

There are plenty of accounts out there who have grown to 100k+
followers and are still growing to this day, without ever posting a single
reel. There are people who's awesome content never uses hashtags,
but still constantly ranks on explore.

In this section, I will teach you all the ways I know how to grow on
Instagram, but it is up to you to experiment and explore, and find the
right fit of these techniques for you.

WHY THIS WORKS:
There are two main reasons why ranking on the explore page can explode your growth:

1) If your posts are doing well, they can rank for several days, if not weeks. If you have several posts
showing at once it can cause a snowball effect

2) As the explore page favours previous user interaction highly, if someone has interacted with your
posts through explore in the past, but have not yet followed you - Instagram will continue to show
them your posts, essentially, until they stop interacting, or more likely, decide they like your content
so much that they follow you
HOW TO
GO VIRAL!
Although it is impossible to tell exactly how and why certain things will go
viral, there are certain things that we can see all viral posts seem to have
alike. Recreating these within our own content, could certainly increase the
chances of our posts being shared multiple times too.

The first thing we know, that if a post is to go viral, it must be shared many,
many times. Therefore, if we want a viral post - our content must be both:

EFFECT!
The last growth method we're going to talk about is the 'snowball effect'. If you can achieve this growth method, you will see 100s of followers pour into your
account passively... even as you sleep!

You see, Instagram has changed significantly in recently years. In the second half of 2021 especially. Starting in June - through our own primary and
secondary research, we found that the longevity of posts had significantly increased for most accounts.

This means that posts would 'rank' (show up) on the explore page especially, but also hashtag pages, for a lot longer than they used to.

Whereas before, most people saw the momentum of their feed posts drop off after 48 hours, now feed posts can grow in momentum the longer that they are
up for. Meaning that you can now still see engagement on posts coming from the explore for as long as up to a month after you've posted them!

Why is this?

Well, as Instagram have recently revealed, they are now specifically looking to highlight new creators, and help accounts get discovered. We've seen this
previously on reels, but now with feed posts it seems to be the case too.

The way the explore page works, as we have previously discussed as well - both depends on the success of previous posts, and will continuously show you to
accounts that have previously engaged with you, until they no longer show interest, or follow you.

Meaning that if someone has previously engaged with a post of your on the explore page, Instagram will show them more content from you.

As your posts start to rank and build momentum, you will find your best posts ranking for weeks at a time - all at the same time. Meaning you will have
multiple posts popping up on people's explore pages at the same time!

ll of this creates a kind of 'growth snowball effect'. Where the momentum builds, as you start to rank
more, bringing in more and more followers without having to really do much at all (other than
creating kick ass posts consistently, that is!).

So how can you increase your chances of truly taking advantage of this kick-ass growth method?
Let's talk about the best way over the next few pages!!
RANK ON EXPLORE/RECOMMENDATIONS
First things first, you need to actually be able to rank on explore. If you're unsure of how to do this,
head back to page 48 in this guide, all about getting to the explore page.

BE HYPER-NICHE
Next, you need to make sure that you are feeding Instagram the right data, so that it knows exactly
who's explore page to rank you on (remember, everyone's explore is different!) If your niche is too
confusing, Instagram may rank you, but it is likely it will be to the wrong people, or more likely just
wont show your content at all. Make sure you are only posting about ONE main niche (and have up
to 4 content pillars max. within this).
CREATE VALUE
As previously discussed, value is a must have in your content. If you are not providing value for your
ideal audience, then you will not get good engagement, and therefore will not be shown to many people.

IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNITY
We've already discussed the importance of community, but it is extra vital here. In order to have be
ranked on the explore page, you need your engagement to come in thick and fast, and from as many
of your organic community as possible. Work on creating a connected community who comment on
your posts as soon as they go up. You can do this by engaging with them, and talking to them in the
DMs. Create a real relationship with as many of your followers as possible.

POST CONSISTENTLY
Another thing the algorithm loves, is creators who show up consistently. Think about your posting
schedule. What can you commit to? If you want to really get in the algorithm's good books, try to post at
roughly the same time every day!

POST REGULARLY
Lastly, in order to take full advantage of this snowball effect, you need to have enough recently
posted valuable feed content as possible. This means posting valuable content as often as you can.
The more you post, the more content Instagram will have to show to your ideal audience. Remember
that although posts last longer now, Instagram still values recency - and so is unlikely to show
anything that is older than 1 month.

Instagram. Consider driving traffic to your
account through different platforms.

Instagram Collabs!
One of the best ways to grow on Instagram is by creating and nurturing collaborative relationships with other accounts in your niche.

Collaborating with other creators with a similar or complimentary audience to you is a great way to get more new eyes of your ideal audience
members on your profile.

You can collaborate with other niche creators in many ways, but here are a few on my favourite:

Lives: hop on an Instagram live with other creators that are complimentary to your niche. If they're in a different niche to you, then you can take this
opportunity to give your audience a different type of value that they wouldn't be able to receive from you. You could do this in an interview style, or
open your live up to Q&As from your audience. If you're in the same niche - why not conduct a shared masterclass together!

Guest posts: a second way of collaborating with another creator, and getting their audience's eyes on you page, are guest posts. Guest posts are
where you write and provide a post for their audience, which goes live on their page and in turn, links back to your page - crediting you as the
originator of the content. The easiest ways to do this are to provide the creator with the written copy for each slide, and allow them to create it in
their own branding and style. Or allowing the creator to pick an existing post from your page, and rebranding it in their designs for their page.

Story takeovers: another unique way of collaborating with other creators includes appearing on each others stories in a 'story-takeover'. Some
interesting ideas include hopping on in a Q&A style - using a question sticker allowing the other creator's audience to ask you questions, or
providing a mini-masterclass in your area of expertise!
