Overview
The foundations of historic city laid during the reign of the Chalukyan dynasty of
Kalyani between the tenth and eleventh centuries. In ancient era, it was called as
Vijayapura or the City of Victory. Vijayapura experienced a great burst of architectural
activity under the Adil Shahi dynasty. Today the district has over 50 mosques and
more than 20 tombs. The district is famous for Tombs, Monuments and Temples;
Introduction making it splendid example of Indo-Saracenic architecture
