Sequence of Operations for Task

yy Wall is to be inspected and tested
by a competent person prior to the
commencement of works to ensure that the
wall is non-load bearing.
yy Ensure appropriate PPE is being worn
yy Consult asbestos information for the
property, report any concerns to supervisor
yy Secure work area boundary with appropriate
protection barriers and display warning/
safety signage as required
yy Ensure area to be worked on is clear of
obstructions, protect any surfaces to prevent
damage, maintain good access and egress
yy Locate and ensure that all gas, water and
electrical services are located and isolated
by a competent person
yy Ensure that work area is adequately
ventilated
yy Check all hand and power tools to ensure
that they are safe to use, faulty or damaged

yy Remove and fixtures and fittings from wall
yy Remove doors from frames
yy Cut plaster along the edges of the wall to
ensure that any plaster removal does not
run onto adjoining walls
yy Remove paper and plaster from wall,
damping down if required, and dispose of
waste to designated area
yy Starting at the top of the wall, use hammer
and bolster/ chisel to dismantle wall in
small chunks for easy removal, taking care to
avoid flying debris, damp down if required
yy Monitor wall as demolition commences for
possible collapse
yy Work down the wall, ensuring that all waste
is removed from the working area as quickly
as possible in order to keep the work area
clear and minimise the risk of trips and falls
yy At the lower levels of the walls (below
shoulder height) a breaker/ drill with chisel
attachment may be used to dismantle the
wall in small chunks
yy All areas to be checked following the
dismantling of the wall for safety and
structural purposes including any adjoining
ceilings, walls and floors
yy All areas to be thoroughly cleaned
