public. While 7% feels that other state bus services are providing the best services. While
25% feels that KSRTC is providing the best road transport services.
The post independent India posed a great challenge before the administration and
policy makers of the basis amenities as electricity, transportation, education, commerce,
banking communicating and mass media etc. were still either under developed or in the
rudimentary stage at the most. One such amenity which was of tremendous import during
those days that of the provisions of better road, transportation to the masses leaving aside
the rail water and air transportation which lie under the financial purview of a commoner.
The state Re-Organization commission was appointed and this body submitted its
report on September 1955, which recommended, among other things, satisfaction of the
Kannada speaking areas under one administration.
After considering the report, the government of India introduced a bill in parliament
for the organization at the state in India and for matters connected herewith. The states Re-
organization Act 1955, among other things provided for the formation of a new Mysore state

form part of the said existing state of Mysore, Bombay, Hyderabad, Madras and Corgi
respectively.
One more district Bellary, which was earlier apart of the Madras state was recognised
into the Mysore state on 1st Nov 1959, the Mysore state was re named as Karnataka on 1 st
Nov 1973.
Before the establishment of KSRTC the road transport service in the erstwhile Mysore
Government Road Transport Corporation Department (MGRTD) setup in 1948 similarly
Bombay State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) was catering to the transport needs of
the Bombay – Karnataka region, likewise the Nizam state road transport department
(NSRTD).
Later on Hyderabad state road transport department (HSRTD) from 18th Sep 1948 i.e.
rebirth of Hyderabad unit 11th Nov 1956, was catering to the traffic needs of the Hyderabad-
Karnataka region. In Bangalore, the Bangalore Transport Company (BTC) was meeting the
transport needs of the city which was set up in 1997.
After the formation of the Karnataka state, the Karnataka State Road Transport
Corporation (KSRTC) was set up the road transport corporation Act 1950 in the year 1961

Trip Generation. KSRTC for each discrete spatial unit it is estimated the extent for which it
is an origin and destination for movements. The output is usually the number of trips
generated and attracted by a given spatial unit.
Trip Distribution. Commonly a spatial interaction model that estimates movements (flows)
between origins and destinations and which can consider constraints such as distance. The
output is a flow matrix between spatial units.
Modal Split. Movements between origins and destination are then disaggregated by modes.
This function depends on the availability of each mode, their respective costs, and also social
preferences.
Traffic Assignment. All the estimated trips by origin, destination and mode and then
―loaded‖ on the transportation network, mainly with the consideration that users want
to minimize their travel time or have to flow through existing transit networks. If the traffic
exceeds the capacity of specific transport segments (which is often the case), congestion
occurs and negatively affects travel time. This in turn, through a feedback process, may
influence trip generation and distribution.
Ownership pattern
The amended RTC act of 1982 provides for the management of the corporation of
board of directors. The NEKRTC is owned by semi government consisting 12 directors in its
board the chairman and wise chairman are non official directors and other are official
directors. The state government appoints all the directors. The board meetings sees that the
policies decided in meetings are implemented by sending resolution copies to whomever it
may concern. The day to day administration of the corporation should made by the managing
directors
Board of directors
In I.E.K.R.T.C the board of directors is consisting of the following members;
1. Chairmen
2. Managing Director of N.W.K.R.T.C
3. Managing Director of B.M.T.C
4. Managing Director of N.E.K.R.T.C
5. Director security vigilances K.S.R.T.C
6. Finance Sectary of government of Karnataka
7. Transfer sectary government of Karnataka
8. Deputy Inspector of general of police kalburgi.
The state bus operator also began to realize it was not making use of an effective
marketing tool and be-gan to bid for keywords with Google‘s Adwords programme. And the
results have been pretty good.
From 960,000 bookings on the KSRTC website in 2009-10, reservations rose by more
than three times to 3.2 million in 2011-12. Herur says that before the Google Adwords
campaign, they had around 5,000 bookings a day on the website. This has gone up to 10,000
a day.
Today, KSRTC spends nearly Rs.10 lakh a month advertising on nearly 15,000
keywords. Besides KSRTC, the organization bids for popular routes and destinations such as
Chennai, Mysore, Hyderabad, Goa and Mumbai.
Showing the analytics page on KSRTC‘s Google Adwords page, Herur points out that
in one day nearly 70,000 people saw their ads while performing a search, of which 8,500
clicked on the ads. In the past year, there have been around 380,000 so-called click-throughs
to the KSRTC website.
KSRTC‘s digital initiative has been short-listed for the Manthan Awards hosted by
The other benefit of the emphasis on digital marketing has been that the share of
Internet bookings has increased compared with reservations from franchisees. This improves
profits as the margins on Internet bookings are higher than those from franchisees. For
KSRTC, the focus on online marketing made complete sense as they have one of the largest
fleets of buses in the luxury and premium bus segment.

Creating customer trust: competing with existing companies that are known to be
safe and reliable.
SUPPLIER POWER
Bus producer or dealers- medium to high power
Number of bus producer is not large, they can set there own condition in terms of
prices if you buy a large number of prices. If you buy a large number of buses then
you might of more power to negotiate your own condition.
The higher prices for buses will affect the consumer needs because it will fluctuate
the price of the transportation service. Hence AC: sleeper buses would not be able to
offer low cost transportation to the customers.
BUYER POWER
Bargaining power of buyer is low, because there are not so much variety. Most of the
low cost bus transportation companies in India are region specific. Like mofussil,
express and ordinary services and rural and suburban services, and also nagarasarige,
rajahamsa etc.
THREATS OF SUBSTITUTE

LEARNING EXPERIENCE
LEARNING EXPERIENCE
This organization study internship was very helpful to me to understand the actual
working culture of an organization. By this I came to know how the management theoretical
concepts are applied in practical in the organization. Over all its wonderful and helpful
experience for me by which I came to know industry as well as organization and it helps to
know about work culture, functions of different departments.
CONCLUSION
KSRTC is the major transportation mode preferred by the public. So it is the duty of
the organisation to provide quality services to meet the requirements of the passengers.
KSRTC is the one of the services given by the Government of Karnataka where it is
in trying to understand the perception of the customers and improves its quality day by day.
Service is an act or performance that one party can offer to another that is essentially
intangible and does not result in the ownership of anything. While providing services, if
KSRTC gives its importance to its dimensions of services like tangibles, reliability,
responsiveness, assurance and empathy it can improve its service quality.
