“You can con God and get away with it,” Granny said, “if you do so with
charm and wit, if you live your life with imagination and verve, God will play
along just to see what outrageously entertaining thing you'll do next.”
Dear Students,
The world continues to put up a brave fight against the pandemic and the
various challenges posed by it. By not accepting defeat, and continuously
striving to break the seeming deadlocks we have managed to emerge
victorious in terms of carrying on the process of learning and keep the
wheels of learning and education moving.
As the vacation season approaches, it is time for some fun and frolic and to
let our hair down. Keeping that in mind, we have designed a creative and fun
filled task for you all to remain productively engaged and at the same time
continue with the ongoing process of learning and imbibing knowledge.
You are aware that the theme for this session is verve, we suggest that you
forge forward with verve and vivacity to accomplish your tasks and achieve
your targets.

SCIENCE HOLIDAY TASK (INTEGRATED WITH FINE ARTS)

Both Science and Art are human attempts to understand and describe the world around us.
The subjects and methods have different traditions, and the intended audiences are different,
but the motivations and goals are fundamentally the same.
One of the most primitive innate needs of humans is to understand the world around us, and
then share that understanding.

To create any art form, a certain degree of VERVE and enthusiasm is much needed. As,
Einstein very rightly said,

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
* To make learners realize the importance of the scientific elements in art forms.
* To cultivate the habit of recycling and creating new objects from the waste articles
around them in nature.
* To enhance students’ knowledge and making learning of scientific concepts fun
with an artistic bent of mind.
* To inculcate critical and creative thinking in the learners.
TASK 1
Create a Teleidoscope.
Kaleidoscopes are art for body, mind and spirit. They fill us with delight and often take us
back to our childhood days when one experienced the wonder of looking through our first
kaleidoscope. The youthful toy creates joy for people of all ages and in all stages of their
lives. The mystery and magic of the kaleidoscope fosters calmness and balance, helps us
focus, enhances creativity, raises our spirits, helps us relax, and reduces stress. Looking
through the kaleidoscope engages both right and left sides of the brain which also aids in
problem solving. Kaleidoscopes offer an outstanding opportunity for gentle healing. As the
patterns change, the right and left brain engage, assisting in focusing, creativity, and
relaxation which will ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. Linked
to SDG -3
Teleidoscope is a kind of Kaleidoscope with an open view, capable of forming beautiful
patterns from objects outside the instrument, rather than from items installed as part of it.
Use the concept of reflection to make your own Teleidoscope.

What you need

• Reflective paper – One Sheet (Can be ordered on Amazon)
• Cardboard tube or used kitchen towel roll
• Double sided tape
• Decorative paper

Steps - Watch the video link and follow the steps given below to help you make your own
Teleidoscope. https://buggyandbuddy.com/science-for-kids-how-to-make-a-
kaleidoscope/

OR
Resin is found in nature but can be created synthetically as well. Resin art is a newly formed
type of synthetic resin that is chemically less toxic and harsh, specifically created to be used
for artistic purposes. A major pro to resin art is that you don’t need to be an artist.
So, let’s put on our scientific hats and create an impressive piece of resin art.
Things required-
• Resin
• Hardener
(Available in stationary shops and amazon)
• Moulds
• Dry flowers
Follow the video for the steps to create your own resin art piece in the form of a coaster or a
wall hanging. (Under parental guidance and supervision)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI1cIH9lWcw.
TASK 2
We inherit eye and skin color, but what about things like creativity or musical talent? Is creativity
something we're born with, or something we learn? (VUCA)
Watch the video link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BFgu09uQ40 and share your
thoughts on an A-4 sheet.

INSTRUCTIONS:
* Choose and select ONE of the TASKS from Task 1 given above.
*The work must be presented in neat handwriting.
*Use coloured A-4 sheets.
*The pictures of coasters/ wall hanging /teleidoscope should be uploaded.
* Please submit the work by 9th July 2021.

MATHS AND PERFORMING ARTS HOLIDAY HOME TASK
‘Mathematics is an easy and exciting subject to learn’. VERVE and creative talent in
learning music, vocal or instrumental can make understanding of mathematical concepts
interesting. Counting, rhythm, scales, intervals and patterns are some of the notations of
music composers and all of these are connected to Math. The connection between the two
subjects is not new. It dates back to the days of the ancient Greek philosophers who
recognized the similarities and greatly researched the bond between the two subjects.
Similarly, mathematics with dancing can help to understand abstract concepts of mathematics
more joyfully.
Let all the mathematical mind be ready to create foot tapping music or choreograph a small
dance presentation, record it and upload on the link of the padlet provided to in teams post.
(This link is class specific hence use only the link provided by your Maths teacher in the
Teams post.)
VUCA and SDG- Watch the video in the following link up to 1 minute and 30 seconds and
answer the following questions.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gxxu4WCMHrI
a) What do you think is the issue being raised in the video?
b) Why do you think this problem arose?
c) How do you think this issue could have been addressed so that such a situation hadn't
arisen during the second wave of Covid 19?
d)What are the various data given in the video? Tabulate them and give their approximate
values to the nearest highest places.
Task 1
You need to compose a 4-line song on any of the following topics and upload it as video
message on padlet.com.
Topics- Knowing your numbers, basic geometrical ideas and understanding elementary
shapes.
Task 2
Using elastic band/string create shapes to show angles in ‘cat’s cradle’. Record videos of different
formations on padlet.

Task 3
Solve the following brain teasers:

So were you able to solve the riddle? Write your answers in the comment section below.
If you get the correct answer, please share it with your friends when the school opens.

(Integrated with Fine Arts) Now, use the grid to highlight the country which is popular
in particular sports/national sports. (Minimum 3 countries from any continent)

Materials Required – Paper plate/Plastic ball (Large size) or any other material, colourful
yarns, glue, scissor, Marker (Any colour) or any waste materials for highlighting the
