Dear Educator, Guardian or Parent:

As you know, very young children are fascinated by animals, enjoy science demonstrations and
love learning about Nature. For some, that love turns to a dislike if they are unable to
memorize all the facts or understand the concepts necessary to do well on their science tests.

All of us have limits on how much we can absorb in one sitting, which constrains educators on
how fast and how much they can teach in a day. For these reasons, we have designed our
science videos to be viewed at home the evening before the topic is covered in class. If you
have not already tried this with your students, we encourage you to do a little experiment to
see if their enthusiasm and comprehension is improved using this method.

The “flipped classroom” model may be suitable using these videos because, during sleep, we
transition short to long-term memories, so facts and concepts are solidified. Just one night’s
sleep can allow the student to build on the basics during in-classroom instruction the next day,
so that you may teach at a faster pace and cover more content.

In making these videos, we have purchased substantial numbers of clips that contain gorgeous
scenes and rare events. This is to help retain the student’s interest, as well as to let them relate
to the concepts in their everyday lives (we do make animations and use specialized equipment
where needed for demonstrations, but always try to include real life footage). For this reason,
some videos may even seem like edutainment as we introduce vocabulary and concepts.
However, we know this style would frustrate students who are already familiar with the
concepts (such as if they are viewing this after classroom instruction) and want a succinct
review. Our narrator has a Midwestern accent and talking speed so if that is problematic,
please remind viewers they can change the play speed and also turn on closed captions.

Periodically, we or others find something in a video that we could have done better. When that
happens, we delete the video and post a new one which makes the old link not function (there
is no way on YouTube to replace the video and keep the link). We hope these are rare events
and apologize in advance if a link is removed; but we also welcome your feedback if you think a
new revision is warranted. We will continue to keep access to all videos and worksheets free so
you may download revised worksheets with the new links any time you wish.

Best wishes,
The staff at Common Core Test Prep

Science Video Worksheet
ANSWER KEY. Green comments only appear on this answer key.

Video: Intro to Human Organ Systems

For educators: you may be able to save time correcting paper worksheets if you
use a long-reach hole-punch (e.g., 2-inch) to punch out the solid circles in this key.
Then you can place this key over the student’s worksheet and put a correction
mark inside any empty circles on the student’s sheet.
Question Question NO YES
1 Humans are smarter than any other animals. Is that ◯ ◯
because of our cerebellums? No. The cerebellum helps
with coordination. Our cerebral cortex is likely why we
are smarter than any other animals.
2 Is the gallbladder part of the digestive tract? Yes. It ◯ ◯
stores bile, which is used to break-down fatty food.
3 Does blood flowing away from the heart travel in ◯ ◯
veins? No. Blood flowing away from the heart travels
in arteries.
4 Does the circulatory system include capillaries? Yes. ◯ ◯
Those are the connection between the arteries and
veins.
5 Is the respiratory system involved in removing waste ◯ ◯
products? Yes. Carbon dioxide is removed by the
lungs. Carbon dioxide is a waste product from turning
food into energy.
6 Is the diaphragm muscle involved in breathing? Yes. It ◯ ◯
plays a big role in helping us inhale and exhale air.
7 Are the kidneys towards our backs (instead of our ◯ ◯
fronts)? Yes. They are also at towards the back (on
either side of the spine) at the level of the lower ribs.
8 Is the spleen part of the digestive tract? No. Although ◯ ◯
it's in the abdomen, it's part of the immune system.
