1 Function Description
Functions
Smart I-V Curve Diagnosis allows Huawei inverters to scan PV strings and
generate an I-V curve, which is then analyzed simultaneously in the NetEco 1000S
inverter management system (NetEco for short) to diagnose PV strings and
generate alarms for faulty PV modules.
A large number of PV plant statistics show that PV module quality and faults are
important factors that affect energy yields. As the PV industry matures, quickly
identifying and rectifying faulty PV modules is the key to increasing energy yields
and reducing investment risks, as well as a trend in operation and maintenance
(O&M).
Smart I-V Curve Diagnosis scans and diagnoses the PV strings connected to an
inverter or in an entire PV plant to detect faults and risks and ensure plant safety.
In addition, the operation wizard makes O&M easier and faster.
Features
● Promptly detecting faults and risks of PV modules
– All PV modules in a PV plant are scanned periodically through annual
inspection, which helps promptly detect faulty PV modules. Timely
processing of faulty PV modules helps improve energy yields and prevents
faults from escalating.
– PV strings are scanned in real time for any output exceptions to detect
faults and risks.
– The NetEco analyzes the data simultaneously, which has little impact on
energy yields and ensures high reliability.
● Improving the O&M efficiency
– Wizard-based remote operation is supported.
– I-V curves are analyzed automatically.
– Reports are generated automatically.
– Rectification suggestions are provided for located faults to improve O&M
quality and efficiency.
Key Performance
● Huawei inverter I-V scanning duration (string open circuit to short circuit) < 1s
● Huawei inverter I-V scanning resolution: 128 data points
● Huawei inverter I-V scanning voltage precision: 0.5%
● Huawei inverter I-V scanning current precision: 0.5%
● Scanning of a single inverter does not require the inverter to shut down, so
energy yields will barely be affected.

NOTE
● If PV String Access Detection is set to Enable for the solar inverter on the SmartLogger
WebUI, the checkboxes in the 2In1 logo area will be automatically set based on the
detection result and cannot be manually selected.
● For a SUN2000 whose DC power cable is connected using a Y-branch connector, the
method for configuring string details is the same as that for configuring common
SUN2000s.
● Connect to PV Modules with Different Specifications is set to No by default.
However, if the power difference between the strings connected to an inverter or
between the modules of a string exceeds 10 W, you are advised to set this parameter to
Yes.
● If the version of the management system is earlier than
iManagerNetEco1000S_V100R003C00SPC160, a PV string voltage alarm may be
generated when the PV strings connected to the same solar inverter or to different solar
inverters in a PV array have different numbers of PV modules. In this case, upgrade the
management system to iManagerNetEco1000S_V100R003C00SPC160 or later.
Step 2 (Optional) Click Batch Apply to apply the PV string settings to all inverters of the
same model in the PV plant.
----End
The Smart I-V Curve Diagnosis function calculates the energy yield loss of the faulty PV
string based on the historical energy yield data of the inverter. If the NetEco has been
running for less than three days or is disconnected for more than one day, perform this step
before starting Smart I-V Curve Diagnosis. Otherwise, skip this step.
Step 2 On the main menu, choose Maintenance > Smart I-V Curve Diagnosis.

If an error message dialog box is displayed when you attempt to start Smart I-V
Curve Diagnosis, rectify the fault and then start Smart I-V Curve Diagnosis.
● If the message indicates that the parameter settings for the object to be
scanned are incomplete, click String Details Setup to set string parameters.
● If the message indicates that the irradiance is too low, you are advised to stop
scanning and wait until the irradiance meets the requirement. If you continue
scanning, a failure may occur.
● If the message indicates that the weather is not sunny, you are advised to
stop scanning and wait until the weather condition meets the requirement. If
you continue scanning, a failure may occur.

4. Select strings in the Comparison column to view the I-V curve comparison of
the corresponding strings
NOTE
– The optimal curve is the I-V curve that has the highest measured PV string power
among all normal strings.
– The moderate curve is the I-V curve that has the median measured PV string
power among all normal strings. If there are five curves and the string power
values are 20 W, 30 W, 40 W, 50 W, and 60 W respectively, the curve with the
power of 40 W is the moderate curve.

A FAQ
Question: Does Smart I-V Curve Diagnosis work when the strings connected to the
same MPPT circuit have different numbers of modules?
Answer: If the NetEco 1000S version is iManager NetEco 1000S
V100R003C00SPC170 or later, Smart I-V Curve Diagnosis works when the strings
connected to the same MPPT circuit have different numbers of modules.
