MPA 111- E-GOVERNMENT FOR LOCAL AND NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

CASE ANALYSIS

This article relates to the issues and concerns discussed in the course as the author talked about the
current e-governance services in the Philippines. It was highlighted that the government of the
Philippines is still in the early stage of the implementation of e-governance services despite digital tools
have been readily available and it is being used now by private entities.

The author showed that e-governance adaptation is very important in every nation like the Philippines in
order to make better relationships between citizens and government. However, as they pursue digital
transformation, it is expected to experience various challenges and difficulties. A huge amount of money
is needed for the effective implementation of e-governance services. In addition, Existing old-age
manpower preferred to use the traditional way which is the paper and pencil approach.

The different digital platforms are now being used in our organizations. All work and meetings are being
done online or internet. Even in my personal life, the most commonly used digital tools are different
social media platforms to stay connected and updated with my family and friends. These digital tools
improve the lives of many. It becomes easier and more convenient. However, these digital tools may
have made work more efficient and efficient. It has also got some disadvantages like the lack of
understanding between the individuals. Since most of the communication is done virtually somehow the
human connection fails to be on a deeper level.

From my own perspective, I agreed that the pandemic “pushed” us to use the internet to work, study,
purchase goods, and even pay bills. The pandemic improved the importance of digital transformation in
all economic activities. This makes the policymaker realize the importance and potential value of
technology application in reviving economic downfall from the pandemic. In contrast, I opposed the
implementation of digital transformation saves money. As I mentioned above, A huge amount of money
is needed for the effective implementation of e-governance services. The nation showed strong efforts
and interest in digital government but these are not sufficient to implement electronic transactions. In
addition, technology is changing rapidly. With the change in technology, different types of technical
options are also available in the market. From the perspective of the Philippines, due to a lack of
sufficient budget allocation, innovation and rapid change in technology is also a challenge for the
implementation of digital government.

I recommend that before implementing the e-Government and e-services effectively, there is a need for
lots of financial plan. there must be a stable government and a capable leader having a straight and clear
vision and leadership. The longer-term and short-term plan and policy is necessary and essential for
effective implementation and adoption of E-government. The government should bridge the digital
divide. As the longer the digital divide persists, the greater the cost for society.
