Quarter/Semester: 1 Week No: 5 Day 4

I. OBECTIVES
Content Standard Some properties and characteristics of visible light

Performance Standard Discuss the phenomena such as blue sky , rainbow, and red
sunset using the concept of wavelength and frequency of visible
light.
Learning Competencies Explain that red is the least bent and violet is the most bent
according to their wavelengths or frequencies. S8FE-If-28
Knowledge  Explain natural phenomenon such as blue
sky , rainbow, and red sunset using the concept
of wavelength and frequency of visible light.
Skills  Cite phenomenon in which the concept of
color frequency and wavelength
relationship is applicable.
Attitude  Appreciate natural phenomenon as related to
daily lives.

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Preparatory activities 1. Opening prayer
2. Energizer
3. Checking of attendance
4. Review
Is the energy of the visible spectrum affected by the
wavelength and frequency?
B. Motivation Why the sky is blue?

C. Activity Guide question in activity 5 Scientific explanations behind
certain beliefs. pages 110-111 in the learners’
module/textbook.

D. Analysis Ask people in the community of their belief about the
following
1. Why is the sky red during sunset? Ans. Vary depending
on the belief of the people in a community- Red sunset s
are caised by the beneding of low frequency colored light.
Like red.
2. Why the sky is blue? Ans. Vary depending on the belief
of the people in a community- Blue sky is due to the
scattering of heighest frequency colored light like violet.
Since our eyes are not very sensitive to violet then we see
it blue.
3. Is there a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? Ans.
Vary depending on the belief of the people in a community.
According to legend, leprechauns found the
abandoned gold and buried it again so no human could
ever find it. The old folktales tell us that there is a pot of
gold hidden where the end of any rainbow touches the
earth.15 Mar 2019

E. Abstraction How is do these natural phenomenon affects the

lives of the people? Ans.
 The people ‘s belief on the existence of a
phenomenon tells the activities they are doing.

G. Practical Applications of
WHY IS THE SKY BLUE?
Concepts and Skills in
Daily Living The placement of colors on the electromagnetic spectrum
provides an answer to that age-old question posed by
generations of children to their parents: "Why is the sky
blue?" Electromagnetic radiation is scattered as it enters
the atmosphere, but all forms of radiation are not scattered
Prepared by:
equally. Those having shorter wavelengths—that is, toward
the blue end of the spectrum—tend to scatter more than
those with longer wavelengths, on the red and orange end.

Yet the longer-wavelength light becomes visible at sunset,

when the Sun's light enters the atmosphere at an angle. In
addition, the dim quality of evening light means that it is
easiest to see light of longer wavelengths. This effect is
known as Rayleigh scattering, after English physicist John
William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh (1842-1919), who discovered
it in 1871. Thanks to Rayleigh's discovery, there is an
explanation not only for the question of why the sky is blue,
l
but why sunsets are red, orange, and gold.

H. Generalization The Red sunset, The blue sky, The rainbow are naturally
occurring phenomenon that are effects of light scattering,
dispersion of colors, bending of colors whichs to their
wavelengths and frequencies.
I. Evaluation IDENTIFICATION. Choose the letter of the correct answer
from the Box.
A. Violet, B. speed of light C. inversely related, D.
Red sunset E. blue sky, F. White clouds
1. What color has the highest frequency? Ans .Violet
2. What is the speed of light? Ans. 3.0x108 m/s
3. What is the relationship between wavelength and
frequency? Ans. Inversely related
4. The bending of low frequency colored light.
5. The scattering of highest frequency colored light
producing a dominant high frequency color .
