along together. They had not walked far when they reached a river on the way.

Unfortunately, the donkey slipped and fell into the river. As it scrambled up the
bank of the river, it noticed that the bags of salt loaded on his back had become
lighter.

There was nothing the merchant could do except return home, where he loaded his
donkey with more bags of salt. As they reached the slippery riverbank again, the
donkey fell into the river, this time deliberately. Thus the salt was wasted again.

By now the merchant knew the donkey’s trick. He wanted to teach the animal a
lesson. As he returned home the second time with the donkey, the merchant loaded
bags of sponges on its back.

The duo set out on their trip to the market a third time. On reaching the river, the
donkey very cleverly fell into the water again. But now, instead of the load
becoming lighter, it became heavier.

Naomi had big project to get done. She also wanted to play with her friends. She
had to plan her time wisely, or she couldn’t do both. She knew that too much
playing would mean she’d get a bad grade. She managed her time wisely, so she
could get a good gradeand still play. Naomi was being wise.

How do you you show wisdom?

Topic 42: Fairness

Fairness is making things equal for everyone. It is also about taking turns and
following rules. There are many ways to be fair.

Rita was a real stickler for the rules. Some people complained about it, but she
liked a fair game. If she lost a game, she lost because she didn’t play as well, not
because of cheating. The other kids called her ‘the umpire’ because she was so fair.

Ken was the classroom’s snack helper. He was the best at making sure everyone
got their fair share. No one ever complained about not getting as much as someone
else. He was very careful to give everyone the same amount. Everyone liked that
about Ken.

Compassion is showing empathy, kindness, and charity. It is also thinking about
others. There are many ways to show compassion.

Heather was always the first person to help when someone in the class was sad. If
someone came in crying or sad, she always gave them a hug. She was there to
listen. If someone got upset in class, she could make them feel better. Heather had
compassion.

Tommy liked to help people when they needed it. He opened doors if someone’s
hands were full. If you dropped your stuff, he’d be the one to help you pick it up.
He didn’t laugh at people, because he knew how it felt to be laughed at. Tommy
was great at showing kindness.

How do you show compassion?

Topic 44: patience

Patience is waiting and taking turns. Patience is trying again and again until you get
something right. There are many ways to show patience.

Carol was starving. She was so hungry that she thought she would actually faint.
She really wanted to run in front of everyone and get her lunch first. She knew that
other people were probably hungry, too. So, she waited, and she was just fine. She
didn’t faint from hunger after all. Carol was patient.

No one wanted to work with Norm in math class. Norm took the longest on every
problem, test, and quiz. Everyone tried to be patient, but I t was hard. Greg was
patient. He waited for Norm. He showed him shortcuts and tricks to get done faster.
Norm was happy!

Out of the night that covers me, black as the pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods way be for my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of
circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance
my head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears looms but
honor of the shade, and yet the menace of the years finds and shall find me
unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the
scroll,

I am the master of my fate,

I am the captain of my soul.

Text: Beating stress
I want to talk about beating stress today. You know life here in Hong Kong is very stressful so I
think today‘s topic is very useful for everyone because we can do something about it, just to
cope with the stress. So , maybe you have some change in your life , maybe big change and
small change , but instead of being afraid , I think you should have a positive attitude and think
of change as a normal part of life. And I think maybe here in Hong Kong , the family (families) is
crowded into a very small housing space , so maybe you would something argue with your
family and I think try (trying) to resolve the disagreement with people is very important
because then you can build strong relationships and keep commitments you have made. For
example , sometime maybe you are feeling alone and you want to make some comfort and I
think you can ask the people you trust for help is very important because if you have a bunch of
friends , they can listen to you , then you can release some stress through talking to them.
And do you know that actually I find a very funny thing that if you want to reduce some stress,
you can reduce it by the world s-t-r-e-s-s, that’s stress. How about , let’s begin with the letter
S’.well , I think “S” is that you can have the scheduling for example you don’t have to schedule
too many things in your day and if you feel you are too busy , you can cut out an activity or two.
And how about the “T” world is treat your body well because experts say that exercise can
reduce stress, and also of you healthy food, then your brain and your body get the nourishment
they need. And the world is ‘R’ the text world is RR is very important, it says Relax; you can do
an activity you enjoy or that relaxes you, maybe you can read a good book or
Text : juvenile delinquency
Crime is a serious problem all over the world. One sort of crime which particularly worries
people is juvenile delinquency that is committed by young people. For some years, juvenile
delinquency has been increasing. There are two main sort of juvenile crimes: stealing and
violence. Most people do not understand why young people commit these crimes. There is a

large number of different reasons. Most people do things to show that they are rebels.
Nowadays it is easier to young people to commit crimes because they have freedom to go
where they want and steal more money to do what they like. There is another possible cause of
juvenile delinquency. More and more young people are influenced by the society they live in
Text :
Many young people leave the village and go to the towns. They think life is more exciting in
town, where they can watch football matches and go to film shows and night clubs. But quite
often these young people find that life in a town difficult. One needs money in order to enjoy all
the exciting things that a town offers, and of course one must get a job in order to earn money.
The village is not a bad place to live. Most villagers are friendly people. They help and support
each other in their needs and they work together to improve life in their village. In the future
some places that are villages today will grow to become towns and cities tomorrow.
Text :
School is an important place for education. This is supported by educators. Except for school, at
home education is also done by parents. In fact, education requires the great participation of
the whole society. The child is in the centre of it. Without education, the society is doomed to
disappear. Then, pupils have to involve in the genuine education if they want to save their
society. Unfortunately, some of them miss classes, choose matters or arrive late at school. They
prefer talking about football, music or irrelevant things.
Text : I have a dream
I have a dream that one day the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slaves owners will
be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day my for
little children will live a nation where they not be judged by the colour of their skin, where little
black boys and little white boys will be able to join hands and walk together as brothers.
This will be the day when all of god’s children will be able to sing with new meaning ‘’let
freedom ring!’’ when we allow freedom to ring from every town and every hamlet, from every
state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all god’s children, black men
and white men, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old negro spiritual ‘’free
at last, free at last. Great God Almighty, I’m free at last’’

Ben : That’s sounds fine to me. I’ve booked the function room at the hotel for the
whole weekend anyway. Have they said what time they want to come and set
everything up?

Oli : Yes, they will need access to the room from 8:30 in the morning. I don’t know
if I will be able to be there that early. Would you be able to open up for them?

Ben : Yeah, I don’t think that will be a problem. Has Mum organised her hair
