RESPONSE OF MIXED CUT VEGETABLES TO DIFFERENT PACKAGING

MATERIALS
INTRODUCTION
Nature and Importance of the Study
Mixed cut vegetables can be stored for a short period of time. Some of cut vegetables
deteriorate faster than others.
The principal purpose of storing it in different packaging materials is to know where is
the best packaging that can hold a mixed cut vegetable for a day.

Statement of the Problem


In the market, everyone seeks vegetables for food. A proper storage of vegetables is the
key to ensure the shelf life of mixed cut vegetables packaging materials. The length of time that
mixed cut vegetables stored depends on several factors such as pathogens, environmental
conditions which the mixed cut vegetables stored.
Objective of the study
The study will focus on the following objectives:
 To determine the best packaging materials for mixed cut vegetables
 To determine the response of mixed cut vegetables to different packaging material.

Sharp knife
Gloves
Sanitizer (alcohol)
Net bag
Paper bag
Plastic bag
Banana leaf
Weighing scale
Table
Methodology
Collection of vegetables
The vegetables will be bought from market.
Preparation of mixed cut vegetables
1 kilogram of okra, 2 pcs of big size kalabasa,1 kilogram of bitter gourd,1 kilogram of eggplant,
1 kilogram of sitaw will be subjective to cut and divided into 4 parts and place it in different
packaging materials as follows:
Treatment 1- plastic bag
Treatment 2- paper bag
Treatment 3- net bag
Treatment 4- banana leaf
Preparation of packaging materials
Plastic bags, paper bag, net bag will be buy in the market, the banana leaf will be
collected in the plantation area of WPU Canique extension campus.
Amount of mixed cut vegetables per packaging materials
¼ kilogram mixed cut vegetables will be put in the plastic bag, paper bag, net bag, and banana
leaf.

Data gathered
 Weight of mixed cut vegetables will be measure every day.
 At the end of the study we will count the deteriorated cut vegetables.
