ABSTRACT
This project study entitled “Design and Fabrication of Moringa Leaf Stripper”
wasconducted to help consumers improved the process of stripping moringa leaves from
itsstalk in safer and easy way.
A researcher-made survey instrument was used to evaluate the project. The device
wasevaluated by thirty (30) respondents which were consisted of twenty (20) experts and
ten (10)faculties teaching T.L.E.-related subjects to test the functionality of Moringa Leaf
Stripper in termsof effectiveness, operating performance and safety. Based on the results, the
technology was ratedvery effective, very good in operating performance, and very safety with the
overall mean 4.96, 4.81and 4.91 respectively.
Further, the researchers revised defects found during testing in which they would
highlyrecommend that instead of using separate storage tool, they would attach a receptacle on
the deviceto have a better service to consumers.

improve and provideconvenience in work, particularly in stripping moringa leaves from its stalk.
U.S. Pat. No. 7,168,643 to Mercier discloses a leaf stripper machine having a grille
framewhich is disposed a rotatable cutting blade for cutting leaves. The stripper includes
a vaneextending from the blade and configured to create a vacuum for sucking leaves through
the grilleframe.
5
Canadian Patent No. 2,485,336 to Bonny et al. discloses a leaf stripper machine having
agrille frame which is disposed a rotatable knife for cutting leaves. The stripper includes a
turbineconfigured to suck leaves through the grille frame and eject the leaves outwards and away
fromthe stripper.
Each of the above machines may suffer disadvantages. For example, the machines
maysuffer the disadvantage of having plant parts and resin adhere to the cutting blades. In such
casesthis may inhibit the sunctioning and cutting ability and thus operation of the
machine. Suchmachines may need to be regularly cleaned and it may be relatively time
consuming to have tostop the operation of the machine to clean the blades before continuing.
The use of blades per se may be dangerous if one’s fingers accidentally touch the
bladeswhile the machine is in operation. The need to insert one’s hands into the machine shown
by Bonnyet al. to where the turbine is located to further clean the machine of trapped leaves may
render
this operation very dangerous if someone was to turn power back on by accident. If an object
suchas a metal object is dropped through the grille, the blades might cut it and send shredded
metalparts flying through the air, yet further increasing the risks of injury to the operator.
These machines may be relatively difficult to operate. For example, the operator may
berequired to rotate the plant along the grille with one hand while putting pressure on the plant
withthe other hand. The use of the turbine in the machine shown in Bonny et al. may cause a
relativelylarge amount of noise, rendering it more difficult for the operator of the
The machine shown inBonny et al. may have a checker plate and a collector bag connected to
its turbine, and leaves mayget trapped within the machine’s checker plate. In such cases, the
collector bag must be removedin addition to the checker plate in order to clear said trapped
sharpened and, in such cases, the machines may need to be fully disassembled in order to
accessthe blades.
The cutting and sunctioning aspects of these machines require a relatively large number
ofparts. Each of the above machines may be limited in their adjustability, which may otherwise
beuseful to accommodate different varieties of plant species whose leaves are to be stripped.
There is, accordingly, a need for a leaf stripper that overcomes the above disadvantages
Description:
The present disclosure, generally, is related to kitchen tools and, more particularly,
totools for use in stripping the foliage from the stalk of leafy vegetables and herbs. It is
directedtoward devices and methods for removing the foliage from stems of leafy vegetables
and sprigsof herbs. The device has body-sized and shaped to fit comfortably into a hand. The
body can becommonly flat and can have at least one edge following a convex curve—a
trimming blade
projects externally from at least a portion of the convexly curved edge of the body. A selection of

apertures of different sizes extends through the body. The user can select a gap large enough
toallow the stem to pass through. During use, a handler can practice the trimming blade to trim
offunwanted parts from a twig of herb or a piece of verdant vegetable, pass the twig through
aselected aperture sized to remove the foliage from there, and cut the foliage to the wanted
extentby rocking the trimming blade laterally its length ended the foliage.
