My name is Behzad Parpanchi and I am writing this letter to apply for the electrical engineering

master of engineering at Dalhousie University. Combining interdisciplinary fields to find an

optimum solution in terms of economy and convenience has always been my ultimate goal. The
science of biomaterials and tissue engineering, combining with the principles of electrical
engineering, particularly image processing, may open some doors to my points of view to
accomplish my scientific desires.

Interested in medicine and mathematics, I chose Biomaterials Engineering as my major in my

bachelor's. Being among the top 0.5 percentage out of 300.000 participants in the national
entrance exam, I was accepted in Biomaterials Engineering at Amirkabir University of
Technology. My passion for understanding the reasons behind every scientific issue has
propelled me towards having an inquisitive mind. Therefore, I have always been thinking about
the flaws of the proposed solutions. Being aware of the difficulties that national drug producers
have faced regarding their competition with international rivals, I did thorough research on the
qualities and market rate of the nationally produced drugs for my internship. I cooperated with
approximately 100 pharmacies in Tehran, Iran and collected data on various brands to find out
about the bestseller of each pharmacy. Then I analyzed gathered data to get hold of downsides of
the low-sale brands.

Furthermore, my B.Sc. thesis was on 3D printing systems such as FDM printers and their
applications in bone scaffolds. After participating in the M.Sc. national entrance exam and being
among top 4.7 percentage out of 3000 students, I started my M.Sc. in Tissue Engineering at the
Amirkabir University of Technology. Since I was engrossed in image processing, I chose to
work on micro-CT images. As a result of my M.Sc. thesis, I would derive a pattern for femur
bone porosity, which in future steps can be used for scaffold designs. Moreover, because of my
academic background, effective teamwork, considerable communication skills and expertise in
photography, image and video editing, I applied and was accepted as an executive staff in the
Innovation Center of Biomedical Engineering Department at the Amirkabir University of
Technology.

Ever since I pursued my M.Sc thesis, my interest in image processing has stirred up and I am
getting more professional at using MATLAB. Consequently, I decided to continue my education
in electrical engineering, as it could be the best field for me to learn the fundamentals of
electrical engineering, particularly image processing.I have always looked for challenges since
challenges have helped me be creative in developing solutions and I have proved myself to
myself and my supervisors during my academic years.

Looking for a university where I can unleash my potentials, follow my interest and seek realistic
solutions to real-world problems, I came across Dalhousie University. Not only its prestigious
reputation but also its eminent professors and well-equipped laboratories entirely amaze me and I
am confident that given a chance to study at Dalhousie University with my strong background in
Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering to step into Electrical Engineering world to bridge my
knowledge in both sciences, I can be of benefit to both my future self and the department and I
would be more than happy to interview with the committee if needed.

Sincerely yours
Behzad Parpanchi
