P-O-L-C Framework

The P-O-L-C framework aims to help managers manage their employees and
subordinates. This also be able to help managers determine the right decisions, and
managers be able to consider the P-O-L-C framework as a reference to accomplish
company objectives. The P-O-L-C framework is an acronym for planning, organizing,
leading, and controlling. The Managers have whole control over making decisions,
managing strategies, and the company's sustainability. Therefore, the P-O-L-C
framework is able considered a guideline for every manager.

1. What function does planning serve?

2. What function does organizing serve?
3. What function does leading serve?
4. What function does controlling serve?
5. Discuss, if there was any function that did not fit well in the P-O-L-C
framework? If yes, discuss these functions and suggest reasons over why it does
not fit in well? Alternatively, discuss the limitations of P-O-L-C framework.

The manager has the capacity, authority, and resources to manage his employees
and subordinates. The manager must have the competencies to know the potential of
every employee and subordinate to build a synergy between each other to accomplish
the organizational goals. And Manager must create a conducive work environment by
motivating and engaging his employees in productive activities. This helps the managers
to the employees to work collaboratively and effectively. It is important to note that this
framework is not without criticism. Specifically, these criticisms stem from the
observation that the P-O-L-C functions might be ideal but that they do not accurately
depict the day-to-day actions of actual managers.H. Mintzberg, The Nature of
Managerial Work (New York: Harper & Row, 1973.

A manager is able to determine the vision and mission of the company, the
manager has full control over this. On the other hand, managers also have the right to
determine what strategies are used to accomplish company goals and objectives.
Planning composed by the manager should be goal oriented and the goals established
should be general acceptance otherwise the efforts of employees and subordinates are
worthless. The manager is supposed to identify the strategies that would lead to global
desires. The manager should be composed the strategy to work efficiently otherwise the
planning that executes will be worthless in the future. According to the uncertainty in
the business field and we are not to be able to predict the future, planning is able to
minimize the uncertainties. Planning composed by the manager should be goal oriented
and the goals established should be general acceptance otherwise the efforts of
employees and subordinates are worthless. The manager is supposed to identify the
strategies that would lead to global desires. The manager should be composed the
strategy to work efficiently otherwise the planning that executes will be worthless in the
future.
Organizing is the function of management which follow planning. The function
of organizing is to help managers and employees to synchronize and combine to execute
the planning that was designed by the manager. Collaborative work between managers
and employees is able to conduct the strategy to accomplish the goals efficiently. In
organizing structures, managers should divide their staff into several departments. It is
able to build an orderly work environment, by selecting people for various departments
according to their qualifications, skills, and experiences. This method helps to clarify
the role of every employee. On the other hand, organizing functions is helpful for
effective administration, a sense of security, and scope for new changes.

A good leader is someone who is able to lead, protect, and not exploit their
employee and subordinate. Leading involves influencing others through direction,
inspiration, and motivation toward the attainment of organizational objectives. Leading
is distinct from the organizing function of management, which generally includes
arranging or assembling resources. Leading or leadership is the glue that allows for the
coordination of people toward a common goal or collective response to a situation. It
facilitates the performance of essential tasks by employees through a combination of
formal and informal methods of influence. Leaders generally use some form of power or
influence over individuals to affect their behavior. Power may come from a position of
authority, while influence is generally related to the social or psychological relationship
or stature. The important thing to remember is leadership generally involves the willing
adoption of the leader's position - rather than through force or coercion. Gordon, J.

At work, several employees do not follow the manager's plan, and strategy
occasionally. The controlling method helps managers to monitor the circumstances and
handle that issues.Controlling consists of verifying whether everything occurs in
confirmities with the plans adopted, instructions issued and principles established.
Controlling ensures that there is effective and efficient utilization of organizational
resources to achieve the planned goals. Controlling measures the deviation of actual
performance from the standard performance discovers the causes of such deviations and
helps in taking corrective actions. Juneja, P. Relationship between planning and
controlling. Management Study Guide. June 23, 2023.

managers should determine whether the system works properly, by giving small
punishments to those employees who not following company rules. This helps
employees to establish moral and work ethics. However, if the manager does not
implement this controlling method properly, thus all strategies and planning will be
worthless. Therefore, managers and employees should be working collaboratively to
build a healthy work environment and accomplish goals and company objectives.

There are several criticisms regarding the P-O-L-C framework, we will discuss
them below.

1. Lack of flexibility
The P-O-L-C framework is too rigid and it is not able to be applied in important
situations. In important situations, managers should be taking fast decisions
occasionally and not rely on the system they have. Therefore, The P-O-L-C
framework does not deserve to be applied in these circumstances.
2. Limited focus on innovation

In the business field, we are not only relying on existing strategies and plans.
Both managers and employees must be creative and innovative, thus helping the
company accomplish its goals and objectives and be able to compete with its
competitors.

In conclusion, the entire P-O-L-C framework still has many benefits to managers
and companies for accomplishing their goals and objectives. However, there are several
things that managers needed is to keep in their mind. Being flexible and creative is to
able build a successful company that is able to compete with the competitors and to
provide global desires quickly.
