The author brings up an interesting point here. Toxicity in different
tissues are not all equivalent. The risk of a specific toxicity may be
‘of more concern to the physician than others. Therefore, we have
priority to reach certain constraints over others. The goal of
dosimetrists should always be to create the most effective plan
while limiting dose to the OAR. However, conversations with the
physician about a specific case may result in them not wanting to
compromise PTV coverage for a constraint. There are acceptable
variations with higher toxicity rates that may need to be
considered.
