CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Background of the Problem

It has been generally stated by many that money can not buy an education, but the truth

is, financial stability is still one of the most important things in schooling, Excellent performance

in the academy is described as attaining good grades, having honor, and receiving awards. There

are several components that are connected to student success, not only intellectual capacity and

determination to be on top but also having the privilege to support their everyday learning in

terms of finance, In school, there are projects and assignments that are needed to be done, and

before doing these said requirements, a student must first purchase the things needed. In

addition, students often spend their whole day in school, and the way to have the energy to

interact and brainstorm is to consume nutrition, which also requires money to be bought. In

every student’s academic life, allowance plays a vital role because it is important for them to

have enough money every day to buy things that they need or want.

In addition to this, high grades are also an integral part of learning, since having these

have a way of motivating students (Stan, 2012). Measuring exceptional performance in school is

often done on report cards (Owen, 2018), having straight A’s or having various lines of 9’s are

plausible.

Allowance and academic performance come hand-in-hand, without money, one can not

access quality education. And even though there are now several scholarships and sponsorships

in our time, this can not entirely cover every student’s needs.
Significance of the Study

By further exploring the theme of this research paper, various points will be shared and

explained by the proponents of this study. And as the researchers have a scope that is within a

school and home, the beneficiary of this study will be the following:

Students. This study will explore how their allowance affects their performance in school, not to

seek more money from parents, but to let each student know the importance of financial

management in their daily lives.

Parents. Instead of just focusing on how their children perform in school and its result as is, they

will have an idea that every action made is connected to how they financially support their

children. Moreover, giving them a gist of how important daily allowance is to schooling.

Teachers and Institutions. By identifying one of the root causes of why students attain their

standing in school, teachers and institutions will then have a general idea of how they can extend

help to the parents as well as the students.

Future Researchers. This research paper can serve as related literature for those who wish to

explore the same topic and theme.

Theoretical Framework
Statement of the Problem

This study aims to explore the connection between students’ daily allowance and their

academic performance correspondingly. Particularly, decoding the responses that the researchers

gathered from Sta. Cecilia Parochial School, San Mateo, Rizal with regard to the following

questions:

1. What are the factors that student allowance brings that affect their academic performance

in terms of:

a. Transportation

b. Purchasing needed school materials

c. Daily sustenance

2. In numbers, what is the percentage of those who have enough allowance versus those

who are lack?

a. Do students who have enough perform more excellently than those who do not?
Hypothesis

The researchers firmly stand on the point that student allowance has an impact on how

students perform in school, moreover, attaining outstanding academic character.

Parochial School under the Accounting and Business Management (ABM) strand. The topic that

this paper will tackle is enclosed on the relationship between student allowance and performance,

together with some of the facts that have been stated in the Statement of the Problem (SOP).

is not worded in the SOP is not included in this research paper. As the topic is sensitive, the

researchers do not seek to discriminate, and the results will be presented in an objective manner.
