CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION AND CONTEXT OF THE
INTERNSHIP REPORT
1.1 SELF-INTRODUCTION
My full name is Nguyen Dang Khoa. I was born and raised in Tay Ninh City. Now I am a
senior student in the Faculty of Foreign Language at the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh
city. I didn't have previous exposure to English until I started middle school.
When I first started learning English, I had great difficulty with it, and was also full of
challenges. Still, I tried to master my English for the sake of communicating with others in order
to understand the English language. Besides, I wanted to be part of some activities, and English
games at school, and to develop myself. When I was in high school, I realized that I still had a lot
of lexical and grammatical failures. My goal of studying English required much more training.
Translation, particularly.
Luckily, I passed my national university exam and got into the Industrial University of Ho
Chi Minh City, which was going to follow my dream. During my four years of college, I gained a
lot of knowledge and experience in translation. I encountered many challenges in translation at
first because there were so many subjects that I hadn't learned, such as contracts, business,
politics, economics, etc. I received a lot of kind help from teachers and friends, which helped me
even more.
In the future, I would like to apply the skills learned in my work as well as be able to share
them with future generations.
1.2 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE INTERNSHIP
I began this internship on December 26th, 2022, and completed it on March 12th, 2023.
Despite the fact that it didn’t last long, during this time, I learned many useful things through my
internship. I was able to improve my translation skills and expertise. Through my internship, I
learned many terms related to research, business and mathematics. This was a very useful source
of knowledge and experience for my future work. Furthermore, under my lecturer’s devoted
guidance and close supervision of faculty within an academic setting, I learned various
translation methods, techniques, writing styles, search engines, analysis and text research skills.
As a result, the intern has played an important role in my academic success and future.

Supervisor: Doan Phan Phuong Dung, M.A. Page 8

Thanks to this internship, I was able to utilize the knowledge outside I had learned, which
helped me to enhance my knowledge, as well as improve my professional abilities. During the
internship period, I got acquainted with a new environment, new people, and new fields of
knowledge. I got a chance to meet and cooperate with friends who have helped me improve the
quality of our assigned task. Moreover, as a trainee, I need to acquire skills in time management
and set impeccable timing for each work.
In addition, soft skills will be an integral part of helping students land good jobs in the
future. Through activities in the working group, teamwork skills not only make teamwork easier
and more productive instead of working alone. Moreover, this helped me develop my skills of
communication and socialization with people, which makes communication efficient and has
many new ideas in the work.
All in all, the internship has brought me many valuable things. The knowledge I learned in
school was not enough for me to develop the future. As I progressed through the internship, I
realized that I had a lot of weaknesses to improve.

CHAPTER 3
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION AND EXPERIENCE
In the two months from December 26th, 2022 to March 12th, 2023. I had a special
opportunity to work as a translator at IUH’s Faculty of Business Administration. During the two-
month internship, I accumulated a great deal of useful knowledge, necessary professional abilities
as well as valuable practical experience in the translation field.
3.1. JOB DESCRIPTION AND WORK ASSIGNMENTS
My work during this internship was to translate a book called “Partial Least Squares
Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) Using R” by (Joseph F. Hair Jr. · G. Tomas M.
Hult · Christian M. Ringle · Marko Sarstedt · Nicholas P. Danks · Soumya Ray). I worked in a
group of seven members in order to translate the 210-page book. I was assigned to translate
chapter 6 (from page 115 to page 136) and Index (from page 195 to page 197) of the book within
the first three weeks of the course. Then, we were involved in Management with translating a
one-fourth 145-page book called “ENT 206 Customer Relationship” by the course team of the
National Open University of Nigeria (from page 37 to page 63). My task was to translate the
contents from page 51 to page 57. Despite working remotely, we maintained a professional work
ethic and monitored the proper progress of each task. Thanks to the dedicated guidance of Dr.
Thanks to the efforts of Long, Mrs. Dung and my team, the translation of the book was
successfully completed.
After two months of hard work, the book's translation was accomplished. Below is an
overview of the work schedule for the week:

3.2. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Danks · Soumya Ray) and “ENT 206
Customer Relationship”. I have acquired a wide range of knowledge about translation, including
vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, and translation techniques.
Thanks to this internship, I learned much benefic knowledge and found out that a good
translator requires more than other skills such as information processing, basic knowledge of the
subject matter, and the ability to switch languages. While working with a wide variety of
information materials, I am keenly aware of the importance of comprehension. I think simply
translating the text literally and omitting the link details will never convey the information of the
research paper, which led to I took the challenges of integrating translation.
I determine the positioning and read skimming the text throughout the document to be
translated. Next, I read the documents translated into Vietnamese related to the subject of the
book I was requested to translate. I also looked up dictionaries and searched the Internet for the
meanings of words I didn't understand. Then translate every sentence in every paragraph and
check and proofread the entire translation.
Here is part of the translation that I completed:

2019; Hair, Sarstedt, Ringle, & Gudergan, 2018; Chap. 2; Sarstedt et al.,
2019).

CHAPTER 4
REFLECTION OF THE INTERNSHIP
4.1. REFLECTION ON DEVELOPED WORKING AREA AND SKILLS
Throughout my prior periods of study, I had the opportunity to contact a lot of knowledge
related to professional abilities as well as soft skills. Through two months of internship, I learned
so much from a range of topics in translation as well as professional skills. I realize that an
internship is a fantastic opportunity, and it has improved my knowledge, that I can actually apply
the knowledge that I've learned. This was the first time I was exposed to a formal academic
document on Business Administration that was provided by my instructor, Dr.Long. I gained a
lot of knowledge in academic literature related to business. This gave me wonderful opportunities
to develop my translation skills and my future job prospects.
During the first days of the internship, I have no work experience, I encountered many
difficulties because I had absolutely no knowledge related to the field of terminologies of
Business Administration. I encountered many difficulties when translating documents from
English to Vietnamese. The thing that worries me the most is whether the words that I translate
are correct and easy to understand for the reader or not and translating documents without paying
attention to the context. Through the two-month translation process, with the enthusiastic support
of teachers and team members, helped me learn how to choose the appropriate words between
English- Vietnamese in the right context. Besides, I gained a variety of knowledge in academic
literature related to Business Administration.
Furthermore, based on the close supervision of Mr. Long and Mr. Dung, working with
them was the best way for me to learn a lot of knowledge related to professional skills. Under Ms.
Dung's guidance, inspiration and advice, I learned a lot of knowledge related to the field of
translation. Especially Dr. Long also introduced and guided how to install and use Mendeley
software to cite documents accurately, quickly, and conveniently. This is really greatly important
and indispensable for my graduation thesis, writing research, etc.
4.2. REFLECTION ON PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT DURING THE
INTERNSHIP
During my two-month internship, I learned and gained lots of knowledge as well as had the
fantastic opportunity to apply my experiences in a working environment that was very different

Supervisor: Doan Phan Phuong Dung, M.A. Page 21

Submitted by Nguyen Dang Khoa ID number: 19472971
from school. Additionally, I learned a lot to develop myself at the Faculty of Business
Administration at the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City.
Thanks to the internship, I gained a lot of experience and knowledge that helped me to feel
less overwhelmed about my future job. Thanks to the translation of the materials on the business
field I have improved a lot of new academic vocabulary, knowledge as well as academic
literature about the business. Besides, through the process of translating documents, also helped
me improve my grammar, lexical, etc.
Furthermore, I also had the opportunity to practice many soft skills thanks to the group
activities. Gradually, the communication increased, and I actively learned about working at an
agency, working proactively, and cooperating with everyone. I also confidently expressed my
opinion, shared it with everyone, discussed it, and finished it well. Luckily, my teamwork and
communication skills improved even more after this internship. I believe that with good
communication skills, I will be able to easily fit into my future job and work well with others.
I started managing my time effectively and overcame my workload. By attending the
internship course, I learned how to manage my time correctly in order to finish my assignments
on time. Time management can be a difficult soft skill at first, and I am no exception. I tried to
manage my time but failed and gave up many times. So far, I have had the opportunity to
participate in this internship. I started managing my time again and recognizing the value of
failure. It taught me a lesson and I learned from the experience. As a result, workloads can be
properly balanced and scheduled for optimal results.
Besides, I also had the opportunity to work with group-mates who had the strict discipline
to achieve their goals. This allowed us to establish effective mutual contact and communication
when working in teams. By listening to group members, sharing life's problems, and taking
responsibility through teamwork, a spirit of solidarity and strong camaraderie was built within the
group.
All in all, my internship time was not much, but I gained valuable knowledge. I believe
they will help me in my future work. Also, the assignments during the internship helped me
recognize the knowledge I was lacking. So I have to keep learning and keep improving.

CHAPTER 5
CONCLUSION
5.1 INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE SUMMARY
I have gained many valuable experiences and lessons at the Industrial University of Ho Chi
Minh City's Faculty of Business Administration. I felt that was a fantastic period of time. I spent
a lot of time working with my friends, and my teacher's devoted guidance. Although my
internship was just two months long, it was enough too for me to gain new knowledge outside of
my major, and gain new soft skills as well as language-related fields that helped me later in my
career.
During this internship, My practice has been a wonderful opportunity, and I've experienced
as a real translator. This is an opportunity that I have to utilize in all of my skills, which has
helped my own skills improve. Besides, having worked in a professional environment at the
Faculty of Business Administration, I have gained new expertise that could help me in the
working environment of my future job.
Furthermore, I gained a lot of new academic literature in the Business Administration field.
Things I never learned before, this was an opportunity for me to grasp the future. In addition,
during internships, I have trained my ability to manage time more effectively, focusing time on
the main content, and managing time to avoid unnecessary waste in parts.
This internship helped me develop myself more than before. I learned good qualities from
my team members as well as practiced some important qualities such as communication,
negotiation, discussion, etc that helped me develop my life skills.
In summary, I am extremely grateful to be an intern at the Faculty of Business
Administration. I gained a lot of experience as well as soft skills. The internship has changed me
so much, it shows me my own strengths and weaknesses in my experience as a translator. And
since then, I realized that was not enough in class. We have to bring theory into practice because
new practices bring about new experiences, new knowledge, and an essential skill in life and in a
professional working environment.

5.2. RECOMMENDATIONS OR SUGGESTIONS
During the 2 months of my internship, it brought me a lot of precious things and I have
gained a lot of experience and knowledge. Besides, I would also like to sincerely suggest making
a contribution to the next internships.
First of all, The faculty of Foreign Language should expand the relationship with more
companies, the internship program, and businesses to connect with students in need of internships
to provide students with a variety of opportunities to intern with companies and businesses.
Additionally, students should prepare well both knowledge and some soft skills such as
cooperation and time management. Besides, students should cultivate technology skills as using
computers or Microsoft. Students should have professional work styles because they have to
work with large companies and businesses. For this reason, the attitude to work must be carefully,
professionally, responsibly and ahead of schedule.
Last but not least, students should take part in numerous seminars to broaden their
knowledge and perspective. They should be exposed to many different cultures, much more new
knowledge so that they have more experience when they enter a work environment.
