54 Union members in ZamboSur trained on Effective Negotiation and Bargaining

Techniques

Pagadian City, ZDS- 54 union members and officers of the different unions and labor
organizations in Zamboanga del Sur were trained on Effective Negotiation and Bargaining
Techniques during the quarterly union meeting spearheaded by the Department of Labor and
Employment- Zamboanga del Sur Field Office (DOLE-ZDSFO) on 27 July 2023 at Springland
Resort and Restaurant, Tuburan District, Pagadian City.
DOLE-ZDSFO Head Miraflor J. Casanes shared the importance of the activity to the participants
and encouraged them to actively participate during the session. “This activity is also an
opportunity for you to discuss issues and concerns affecting you and your organizations,” said
Ms. Casanes.
Dir. Oliver C. Jao of the National Conciliation and Mediation Board-9 shared the different
strategies and techniques on how to effectively and harmoniously negotiate and bargain with
their management for better working conditions and benefits for their members.
Also, as part of DOLEs commitment during the previous meeting to provide updates on other
scholarships ang trainings offered by other national government agencies, TESDA thru its TESD
Specialist I Ms. Shekinah L. Diosmano presented the different scholarship programs and
Trainings including assessment programs which can be availed both for union members/officers
and their dependents.
Denmar V. Libre, Unifast Accountant of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED-9) shared
about the different scholarships opportunities for qualified students pursuing higher education in
a CHED-accredited institutions. The participants are members and officers of the different
workers organizations in Zamboanga del Sur such as the Springland Employees Union (SEU),
Southern Mindanao College- Teachers Association (SMC-TA), Mindanao Alliance of Land
Transport and General Workers' Union-Pagadian (MALTU-Pagadian), Rose Pharmacy, Mercury
Drugs and BDO, Bank of Makati, and MR DIY employees’ union.
In closing, labor union presidents, Mr. Calvin O. Polentisima(SEU) and Ms. Lorelei Marie Enar
(SMC-TA), Jeffrey Mondarte (MALTU-Pagadian) expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to
attend that learning session and thanked the speakers and all the participants for their time and
active participation.
Workers’ Capability Development is one component of DOLE Workers Organization and
Development Program, which provides support for the development and upgrading of the
capabilities of workers’ organizations and their members in the areas of leadership,
organizational development and management, labor and human relations, grievance handling,
labor laws, occupational safety and health, productivity, and the like.
