Automatic reclosure: Summary

 Internal automatic reclosure

 optimal coordination with protection functions and synchro check
 up to 9 ARC cycles
 only 1-pole / only 3-pole / 1- or 3-pole
 different response to 1 and multiple pole faults
 Special applications: DLC/RDT and ADT
 Combinable with external devices:

Reduced Dead Time (RDT)

S2
S1 CB-A CB-B CB-C

F1 F2
7SA
Z1B
 At A the Z1B is released prior to 1st AR cycle (para 1357)
 All faults (F1) along line A-B are tripped without delay with Z1B at
CB-A
 Non-selective trip for external fault (F2) is possible, but AR will be
carried out
 With RDT, the dead time following non-selective trip can be
minimised. CB-A is reclosed when return voltage from S2 via CB-
B is detected at A after CB-C opens.

Adaptive Dead Time (ADT)

S1 CB-A S2
CB-B

F1
7SA
Z1B
 At A and B faults along the line are cleared by stepped distance
and tele-protection
 At B the AR is applied with a fixed dead time
 At A the AR is applied with ADT
 When return voltage is detected at A from S2 via CB-B following
successful reclosure at B, the reclose command to CB-A is given
 If the AR at B is not successful because fault F1 is permanent,
the ADT will not detect return voltage at A and reclosure onto the
fault is prevented at A

Dead Line Check (DLC)

Windpark
S1 CB-A S2
CB-B

F1
7SA
Z1B

 The Fault F1 is cleared by the protection at A and B. The

Windpark must disconnect itself by undervoltage detection.
 Reclosure at A and B may only occur if the Windpark is
disconnected – un-synchronised closure will damage Windpark
 At A and B the DLC feature will only allow reclosure following a
dead line condition (no voltage) for set time (para 3438)
