2010 Haitian earthquake

Have you ever wondered how severe an earthquake can be to a country. well,
today I'm explaining about the disaster that happened in January 12, 2010 , in Haiti a country
not many people know about. But this country was the first independent
black republic that threw Napolean's army out of their land. The
earthquake that happened was a 7mw earthquake, and it's classified as
a major earthquake this type of earthquake destroys anything in its way,
and also can cause a tremendous amount of damage over large areas.
Not only that but it also happened in the capital of Haiti meaning the
most important area. Reportedly in this earthquake, 222,570 people
died and 102 United Nations staff lost their lives. This earthquake is
also one of the top 10 worst earthquakes in the world. The earthquake,
also caused many local tsunamis, as Haiti is a coastal country. To this
day the earthquake caused tremendous damage, which Haiti is still
struggling to recover from as its capital was the richest part of the
country. The earthquake, also, unfortunately, left 1.5 million people homeless and also
devastated Haiti's infrastructure. The International-American development bank also reported
that the damage was 7.8 billion dollars to 8.5 billion dollars, and can get high as up to 13.9
billion dollars over time. Haiti is also a country that relies on agriculture and with their agriculture
gone this impacted their economy. I think this earthquake is very serious and belongs and
should stay as one of the top 10 worst Earthquakes in human history.
