4 Differentiation between "H" and "F" cylinder heads

For both "H" and "F" cylinder heads, there are a large number of different cylinder head configurations
and correspondingly many cylinder head part numbers. An easy way to distinguish between all the "H"
and all the "F" cylinder heads is by looking at the cooling water lines and their connections on the cylinder
heads.

Visual differentiation on the engine / cylinder heads:

"H" cylinder head "F" cylinder head

① … Cylinder head ① … Cylinder head

② … Cooling water line ② … Cooling water line

Characteristic of all "H" cylinder heads: Characteristic of all "F" cylinder heads:
- Cooling water line connection on cylinder head TOP - Cooling water line connection on cylinder head SIDE
- Fastening of the cooling water line with ONE (1) screw - Fastening of the cooling water line with TWO (2) screws

Differentiation via S-BoM/SPATSL:

Cooling water line for "H" cylinder heads Cooling water line for "F" cylinder heads

Cooling water line part number: Cooling water line part number:
9007831 or 9024635 449467 or 9028895

If cooling water lines 9007831 or 9024635 are installed on an If cooling water lines 449467 or 9028895 are installed on an
engine, then this engine is fitted with "H" cylinder heads. engine, then this engine is fitted with "F" cylinder heads.

5 Strategy for replacing "H" cylinder heads

Which cylinder heads need to be installed when replacing "H" cylinder heads depends on whether only
individual cylinder heads or all cylinder heads need replacing:
Replacing individual "H" cylinder heads Install "H" cylinder heads as per S-BoM/SPATSL
Replacing all "H" cylinder heads Install "F" cylinder heads 1256282
(e.g. at the next 'Minor Overhaul')

The cylinder head part number can be obtained via S-BoM/SPATSL or read directly from the cylinder
head (different positioning on the cylinder head depending on model and year of manufacture).

Basic rules:
• For engines that are subject to cylinder head field tests, the strategy defined here for replacing "H"
cylinder heads does not apply. Please continue to follow the relevant field test requirements in this
regard.
• Mixed installation of "H" and "F" cylinder heads on an engine is NOT permitted.
• A conversion from "H" to "F" cylinder heads must be carried out in accordance with Service
Technician Instruction ST-245.
• If, when replacing all cylinder heads, part numbers are used that differ from those previously used,
please update the parts list/spare parts catalogue (S-BoM/SPATSL) as per ST-255_Att-01_EN (for
INNIO employees) or ST-255_Att-02_EN (for service partners).
