GENERAL CONDITION OF VESSEL

The vessel was built in 1986 and presently classed with Germanischer Lloyd. She is geared
container carrier with her engine room, accommodation and navigation bridge located aft. She is
equipped with 4 cargo holds fitted with folding type weather tight steel hatch covers operated by
hydraulic cylinders. The vessel is served with 2 sets of electro-hydraulic cranes with 40 Tons
(SWL) and 1 set of electro-hydraulic cranes with 30 Tons (SWL). The cranes were found well
maintained and reported to be in good working condition.

HATCH INSPECTION FINDINGS

The rigid structures of weather deck hatches including hatch panels (4 sections), hatch coaming
platings with 4 corner gussets and hatch coaming stays were in serviceable condition. No
significant trace of previous leakage on hatch coaming was noticed.

The securing devices including compression bars on hatch coaming top, drain channels, gutter
ways and drain holes on hatch coaming top at 4 corners, rubber packing, cross joint cleats on
hatch covers, quick acting cleats, access manhole covers, horizontal stiffeners around the hatch
coaming etc. were all in serviceable condition.

CARGO HOLDS INSPECTION FINDINGS

The steel works in all cargo holds were painted. The structures in holds were generally in good
condition except some slight dents / scratches on tank tops between floors, lower hopper tank
platings, ladders, bulkheads and cofferdam platings. The tank top were clean swept and in dry
condition. Silver Nitrate test was randomly carried out by us at various locations on tank tops,
lower hopper tank platings, bulkheads and cofferdam platings and the results were negative at
the time of inspection. Bilge tanks were visually inspected through manholes and found empty at
the time of inspection.
CARGO PRE-SHIPMENT INSPECTION

We attended at North Port, Port Klang on 20 May 2009 to conduct pre-shipment inspection of
the cargo. During our attendance we found the nominated cargo were stored on the ground of
open yard within the port compound. The slabs found stored segregated according to colour
marking. The slab identifications number was found hand written with white marker on the
edges of both ends. Meanwhile the color markings were painted on the edges of all four corners
of the slabs.

Our pre-shipment inspection carried out to a certain accessible limits only and the findings are as
follows:-

 All cargo generally found bend and / or wavy longitudinally and / or transversally.
 Number of slabs found with atmospheric rust at various degrees.
 Number of slabs found side edges with localized dents / cuts.
 Number of slabs found with mill scale laminations.
 Number of slabs found with localized light surface rust at various degrees.
 Number of slabs completely covered with heavy surface rust.
 Number of slabs found with dirt, loose mill scales and mill dust deposits.
 Randomly selected slabs were tested with silver nitrate solution and the results were
negative at the time of our inspection.

CARGO LOADING INSPECTION

Prior commencement of loading, the cargo lifting gears were visually inspected and found to be
in apparent sound condition. The construction of quay at wharf no. 16 was of cement concrete.
The adjacent wharves no. 15 and 17 was a general cargo wharf with no harmful commodity
being operated in the vicinity during the loading operation.

The cargos delivered from the port open yard to the quay side by private own trailers. 4 to 5 slabs
were carried per trip. The slabs arrived at quay side were then unloaded on to the wharf below
the crane for loading.
The cargo loading condition inspections carried out by our surveyors stationed at the storage
yard and wharf apron through out the loading operation. All slabs were visually inspected to
evaluate the condition prior to loading. The loading operation commenced at 1715 hours on 22
May 2009 and completed at 1345 hours on 24 May 2009. The loading was carried out with
chains encircled to the slabs and hooked to the vessel’s cranes / derricks. 1 to 2 slabs were loaded
per lifting.

STOWAGE AND SECURING OF COILS

The slabs were loaded directly in to respective cargo hold and stowed on the tank top. Prior to
commencement of loading wooden dunnages were laid on the tank tops to avoid any damage.
Finally on completion of loading the slabs were lashed with steel wire and turnbuckles. The
vessel’s cargo stowage summaries are as follows:-
