Introduction

This portfolio consists of two personal business writing samples: a cover letter and an email
publishing request. In these two pieces, I have focused heavily on the communication strategies to
effectively convey my message to the receiver, in this case, the human resource manager and the
publisher.

The cover letter has always been a valuable document for a person to represent their identity and
skills, an effective way of communication for the job-related matter. It is extremely important to
carefully edit and structure a cover letter before starting a career in a specific company. Therefore, I
would like to dissect the structure of a cover letter in this assignment to enhance my communication
skill in this piece of document.
Communication strategy analysis

According to Munter's communication strategy work frame, five key factors will affect successful
communication: Communicator, audience, message, channels, and culture. I will analyse my cover
letter following these mentioned elements.

Firstly, the communicator, myself , must provide a strong credibility in the cover letter such as
education background and related experience. As I am applying for a game company, Rovio, I have
stated that I am an experienced marketing intern as I have participated voluntarily in different
school projects and understood the workflow of the position in the basic level. This will highlight my
positive energy and willing to work to the hiring manager.

Secondly, I have researched about Rovio and acquired the information of the receiver that I need to
contact about the position. So that I have directly written this cover letter to her. The receiver is
highly experienced in selecting candidates through cover letter and resume. She has been reading or
seeking out for potential employee on different platforms. Therefore, she has an ability to spot the
similarities in each candidate. Understanding this concept, I have listed out how I different from the
others. For example, I have suggested that I am always running marketing campaigns as my free will
in my personal spare time.

Thirdly, I have chosen to send email with the attached document: my cover letter and resume. With
this channel, I can condense my information effectively and it is always available to the receivers.
The accessibility is important as my cover letter can be forwarded or shared between different
individuals. For structure, I stated my priority objective which is my interest in the marketing
position. This will highlight my main idea and guide the receiver through the writing.

2023. I am a self-motivated and energetic Marketing Graphic Designer with a remarkable

During my five years of education in marketing and graphic design, skills and work experience has
allowed me to develop my strengths in different voluntary positions such as event coordinator,
marketing and advertising designer, project manager assistant. Additionally, I have always run
personal marketing campaigns for my own products as my practice since my first year. Because of
my varied background, I am flexible between different roles in the marketing aspect. Therefore, I am

Dear Ms. Alvarado,

I am contacting in regards of the publishing of our company indie game, titled Mia: Never Home.

Shortly about the game, Mia: Never Home is a 2D platform game that is being developed by our X
Studio in 2020. The story is about a little girl named Mia who was forced to go on a journey on her
last day at kindergarten. Her mission is to save her friends who unfortunately were turned into dolls
and toys. The game will be finished in July 2023 and we expect the released date will be in
September 2023.

This short 2D game targets to young generation, from the age of 5 to 18. I have enclosed my script
and details for your review. I believe that Nintendo would be the best publisher house for this type
of game because of your focus on family and child games. Additionally, Nintendo has always
famously known as a friendly platform that support all private game companies like X Studio, to
introduce games to the public.

This is our first attempt to publish full 30 hours gameplay on console. In my previous experience, I
have written a short story called ‘Flower to heaven’, published on social media platforms such as
Facebook, Twitter and Reddit and we have a decent community that is waiting and support for Mia:
Never Home. I am extremely looking forward about the publishing of Mia: Never home if our studio
gets approved by Nintendo

CONCLUSION

To effectively express my main idea, I have chosen to directly talk about the objective in each letter.
Additionally, I limit my word length and use formal or academic word. I believe this will increase my
credibility along with my professional attitude in workplace. Following the Munter’s work frame, I
think I have constructed a fairly informed pieces of writing. However, I will need to work more on my
vocabulary and the others of each main ideas.
