GRADE EIGHT

LANGUAGE ARTS
Welcome to Grade Eight Language Arts! The Language Arts curriculum
allows students the opportunity to grow in the six literacies: listening,
speaking, viewing, representing, reading, and writing. We will explore
several thematic units that will challenge students to investigate their
thoughts and experiences, respond creatively and critically, manage
ideas and information, enhance communication, and collaborate with
others. Here are our units, and their curricular connections.

LATE WORK POLICY

The late work policy is designed to promote responsibility, accountability, and effective
communication skills among Grade 8 students. It aims to encourage students to submit
assignments on time while providing them with an opportunity to communicate with
their teacher in case of extenuating circumstances.

Policy Guidelines:
Submission deadline - all assignments are expected to be submitted by the due date as
communicated by the teacher.
Late work requirements - if an assignment is going to be turned in late, the student must
email both the teacher and their parent/guardian before the day it is due.
The email must include:
(1) This subject line: “Request for Assignment Deadline Extension”,
(2) The name of the assignment and class it is for,
(3) A polite and formal request for the teacher to grade the assignment late,
(4) The reason for which the assignment is late, and
(5) A time the student is available to sit with the teacher at lunch, and have the
assignment graded.
Late work requirements will be modified if extenuating circumstances are involved.
Late work will not be accepted and graded until these requirements are fulfilled.
