Introduction
The NPR™ (No Profile Required) Production Bridge Plug is a tool that can be set on electric line, or
coiled tubing and retrieved on slick line. The design permits various functions such as a Blanking Plug,
Check Valve, Choke and Instrument Hanger. The packer type design results in a tool capable of setting
anywhere in the tubing string without requiring nipples for location.

The thread used at the bottom end of the NPR™ is the same thread as used on permanent packer
seal bore extensions. This gives it a number of advantages. The O-rings and back-up rings should be
readily available either in district stock or from the plant. The standard sump can be made using a stan-
dard guide, pup joint, and bull plug. The main reason for using a straight thread and O-ring connection,
instead of using a premium metal to metal connection is for ease of field redress. If you have to redress
or convert the plug at the well site, the use of a premium connection means that you will need a torque
capability to break the connections and to make them back-up. The accessories are simply connected to
the thread on the bottom of the NPR. A Sump (normally a Millout Extension or a Seal Bore Extension) is
used with all accessories as described in “Equalizing and Retrieving” to allow for proper equalization. For
use as a Blanking Plug, the Sump can be made as a one piece plug.

H™ Bottom Plug
Assembly Drawing No. A02-693-01P01

The H™ Bottom Plug design was taken from the Sur-Set Two-Trip Blanking Plug design. This style of
blanking plug has a removable mandrel to seal pressure from above and below. These plugs are for use
in wells where sand or sediment might be encountered. The removable mandrel protrudes from the fishing
neck of the lock so that the sand can be washed off of the mandrel for retrieval. These blanking plugs are
“two-trip”; two trips to set the plug and two trips to retrieve the plug. The standard Bottom Sub should NOT
be used with this bottom.

Pump Open Plug
Assembly Drawing No. 337-392-00P1

The Pump Open Plug bottom is designed to hold pressure from above and below. The plug can be
equalized by applying pressure from above to a preset value that shears the shear screws installed in the
bottom of the sleeve. Once the outer sleeve shifts down there is a large flow area open for circulation. The
standard bottom sub should be used with the Pump Open Plug to provide an equalization method.
