STUDY MATTHEW 5:7

List down the value you come across providing a brief explanation on how you
understand each of them.

According to the English Good News Bible version, Matthew 5:7 reads; “Happy are those
who are merciful to other; God will be merciful to them.”

This verse teaches us that it is important to be merciful to others, because God will show
mercy to those who are merciful.

 CHRISTIAN VALUES

Matthew 5:7, reflects the Christian values as follow;

- COMPASSION

According to the bible, compassion means feeling of sympathy and concern for the suffering
of others, and it is often associated with the act of helping those in need. Therefore, this value
teaches us that we should be kind and compassionate to others, even when they have wronged
us. For example in Luke 10: 30-36, talks about a Good Samaritan who stopped to help a
wounded man on the side of the road, even though he was a stranger.

There are many ways we can practice compassion in our lives by donating charities,
volunteer our time, giving back to the need, or simply offering kind words to someone
struggling.

- FORGIVENESS

According to the bible, it teaches that forgiveness is not just about forgetting or excusing
someone’s actions, but about letting go of the anger and resentment that we hold onto.
Therefore, this value teaches us the Christian that we should be forgiving, and not hold
grudges against others. For example the story of joseph, who was sold into slavery by his
own brothers. After many years of suffering, Joseph was eventually reunited with his brothers
and he forgave them for what they had done.

- LOVE

This value teaches Christians to love each other, even our enemies. Love is a central theme in
the bible, and it is often described as the most important commandment. The bible teaches
that love is not just a feeling, but an action. It is a commitment to care for and protect others,
even when it is difficult. The bible also teaches us that we should love our neighbors as we
love ourselves. This means we should treat others the way we want to be treated.

2
Luke 6:27-28 reads “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who
curse you pray for those who mistreat you.” Therefore, as Christian we should love each
other, even our enemies according to the book of Matthew 5:7

Inclusion, these values are important because they help us as Christians to live in peace and
harmony with others. When we are merciful, forgiving, and loving, we create a more positive
and compassionate world.
