A Synopsis of Tata Selo

By: Rogelio R. Sikat

The story began in prison. Where Tata Selo killed Kabesang Tano for claiming ownership of the
property where Tata Selo cultivated. Tata Selo, however, disagrees, claiming that it is his land. It
just happens that it has been pledged and banned. After the Kabesa pushed him to evict Kabesang
Tano from the land he was farming, he killed Kabesang Tano. In order to defend himself, he told
the Alkalde and Hepe that he had been repeatedly struck by an object. Because of what had
occurred, Saling went to see her father the following day. Saling was the Kabesa’s maid and may
have fallen ill as a result of Kabesa abusing her. As time passed, they didn’t have the justice they
deserved. The inequality still exists and Tata Selo’s final statement was, “They have taken
everything.”
