Mapping of IET learning outcomes during project period

Answer the following questions with relevant to your Project work.

1. Explain the steps you followed to Investigate and define the problem in your project work
(C4, evaluate level)

I wanted to fabricate a composite material having high strength to Iight ratio for which I
had to go through several research papers to finalize choosing basalt fiber and epoxy
reinforced composite with amla seed particulate as the filler.

2. What is the science, mathematics, statistics, engineering principles and other basic
technology you identified for design (Mechanical, Electronic, Physics, Chemistry,
Automation) in your project work? (C1, C2, C3, Application, Analysis, Evaluation of
Science and Mathematics in the project)

CAD diagram was done in order to carry out the abrasive water-jet cutting.
FTIR was done to identify the functional groups and the chemical bonding
Gravimetry was done to identify the constituents (ie, cellulose, lignin) of the filler material.

3. Have you considered the Environmental and sustainability limitations in your project
work? (C7, evaluate)

Yes, I used bio-degradable materials like basalt fiber and amla seed particulate as the filler.

4. Have you considered ethical dilemma, health, safety, security, and risk issues; intellectual
property; codes of practice and standards? Did you address any of these issues in your
project work? If so, Explain in detail. (C5, create)

Yes, I ensured to Iar gloves while carrying out the fabrication method and also wore shoes
to the lab to carry out the abrasive water-jet cutting method.
5. What Ire the esthetical issues faced and how it is addressed in your project in the design
phase? (C5, analysis)
To ensure the fabricated surface to be smooth, I had to carry out the hand-layup method
carefully by also keeping in mind of the percentage of the substances to be added while
carrying out the fabrication method. CAD diagram also had to be drawn perfectly to get the
cut outs after carrying out the abrasive waterjet cutting.

6. Are there any health issues considered during design process. How it is addressed in your
project in the design phase? (C5, create)
NO

7. What Ire the safety, security and risk issues needed to be taken care of in the design stage?
(C10, create)
Yes, I ensured to Iar gloves while carrying out the fabrication method and also wore shoes
to the lab to carry out the abrasive water-jet cutting method.

8. Are there any intellectual property issues needed to be taken care off? Have you come
across IP issues in the project phase? (C5, create)
NO

9. What are the codes of conduct and standards you needed to use in design phase and in other

security, health, risk) Explain the legal issues, ISO standards, IEC standards, etc. (C8,
evaluate)
Yes, I ensured to Iar gloves while carrying out the fabrication method and also wore shoes
to the lab to carry out the abrasive waterjet cutting method. The panel was cut following
the ASTM standards . The The tensile test was conducted as per ASTM D3039 standard
with a specimen size of dimensions 25mmx250mm. Impact testing was conducted as per
the ISO std, and the dimension of the specimen was taken as 80mmx8mm. The flexure
strength test was conducted as per ASTM D7264 standard with specimen size of
dimensions 96mmx13mm.
