First Quarter Journal Entry

Date: August 23

The first quarter of the school year has begun, and I am excited to embark on this
journey with my high school Filipino students. My learner-centered philosophy is at
the forefront of my teaching approach. Today, we dove into the rich tapestry of our
language and culture. The classroom was buzzing with energy as we discussed the
importance of language proficiency and cultural appreciation. I introduced the
curriculum in a way that highlighted real-world applications, encouraging students to
see the relevance of Filipino language skills beyond the classroom.

To foster critical thinking skills, I designed a thought-provoking activity where

students analyzed a Filipino poem, deciphering its hidden meanings and cultural
context. This activity not only challenged their analytical abilities but also ignited
their curiosity about the depth of our language. The interactive nature of the session
truly exemplified the inclusive environment I strive to create, ensuring every student's
voice was heard.

Second Quarter Journal Entry

Date: November

As I reflect on the second quarter, I am delighted to witness the growth in my

students' language proficiency. Our classroom has transformed into a space where
the Filipino language comes alive. We explored various genres of literature, from
classic to contemporary, exposing students to diverse writing styles. Through
discussions and creative projects, they expressed their interpretations eloquently,
showcasing their enhanced language skills.

Cultural appreciation remained a central theme. Our classroom transformed into a

mini cultural hub as students presented their research on different regions of the
Philippines. Through presentations, traditional dances, and cuisine, they celebrated
the country's rich heritage. It was heartwarming to see the bonds they formed
through these activities, fostering a sense of unity and respect for our cultural
diversity.

Third Quarter Journal Entry

Date: February
The third quarter has been marked by a deeper dive into critical thinking skills.
Guiding my students through complex literary analyses and encouraging them to
formulate and defend their viewpoints has been incredibly rewarding. Their insights
into the socio-cultural nuances of Filipino literature have been both perceptive and
thought-provoking.

In line with our learner-centered approach, we incorporated peer reviews into our
writing workshops. This allowed students to receive constructive feedback from their
peers, promoting collaborative learning and enhancing their writing proficiency.
Witnessing their willingness to support each other's growth warms my heart.

Fourth Quarter Journal Entry

Date: May 18

As the school year draws to a close, I can't help but feel immense pride in my
students' journey. The fourth quarter has been a culmination of all their efforts. Our
classroom is now a hub of confident communicators, critical thinkers, and culturally
aware individuals.

The final projects showcased the depth of their learning and their ability to think
critically and creatively. From modern reinterpretations of traditional folktales to
persuasive essays discussing contemporary social issues, their work spoke volumes
about their growth.

Our closing activity was a cultural fair where students, their families, and even the
school community participated. The joy on their faces as they shared their insights
and experiences with others was truly heartwarming. This event underscored the
lasting impact of an interactive and inclusive learning environment.

In conclusion, this school year has been a remarkable journey of growth, discovery,
and shared learning. My learner-centered philosophy has proven to be a powerful
approach, and I am excited to continue refining and adapting it in the years to come.
