Course Description
This course introduces tools, trends and techniques in creative thinking towards critically analyzing independently sourced complex information and ideas, and generating
solutions taking into account a range of perspectives. The students are expected to reflect on their thought process and present their findings considering reasons to
support and rationally oppose their own viewpoints using logical and abstract thinking to evaluate the effectiveness of ideas, products and performances to achieve
desired outcomes.

CLO 2. Discuss the different trends and techniques, its application and process
CLO 3. Formulate and solve different quantitative creative thinking tools

Topic 1: Introduction to Creative Thinking Tools, Trends and Techniques
LO1: Discuss the definition of Creative Thinking Tools, Trends and Techniques
LO2: Discuss its purpose, relevance and uses for future courses
LO3: Create the mindset that overlays design thinking to ensure that the products are actually relevant and beneficial in the long run.
Topic 2: Design on Kansei Engineering
LO1: Apply the process of Kansei Engineering to design a product.
LO2: Identify how human feelings can relate to the specification / features of a product
Topic 3: Design on Pugh Matrix
LO1: Point out selection criteria among a set of alternatives.
LO2: Evaluate a set of alternatives or options in making decisions.
LO3: Decide a solution from a quantitative result.
Topic 4: Design on Quality Function Deployment
LO1: Define the process in Quality Function Deployment Tool
LO2: Prioritize spoken and unspoken customer wants and explain these needs into technical characteristics and specifications.
LO3: Build and deliver a quality product or service by focusing everybody toward customer satisfaction
Topic 5: Design on Kano Analysis
LO1: Describe the three requirements of Kano Analysis that helps understand customer preferences.
LO2: Identify how customers view the different features of a product or service against each other.
Topic 6: Design on TRIZ
LO1: Define the different TRIZ principles.
LO2: Apply the TRIZ Principles in their daily lives.
LO3: Practice creating inventive solutions using the TRIZ principles.
Topic 7: Human-Centered Design Methodology
LO1: Discuss the definition of human-centered design methodology
LO2: Explain Human-Centered Design Methodology as well as how it will apply in designing human-centered product for end users.
LO3: Apply human centered design approach and methodology
LO4: Practice research skills in designing product
LO5: Perform best practice from research to solution for an effective and successful outcome
Topic 8: Design Thinking Methodology
LO1: Explain the Research Process in Design Thinking tool.
LO2: Identify the needs of the stakeholders through the user-centric approach.
LO3: Classify and re-define innovation challenges by asking the right inquiries, and not necessarily focusing on the correct answers.
LO4: Create a rapid prototype to bring their thoughts into reality as fast as reasonably expected, and obtain feedback.
Topic 9: Design on Problem Definition Tool
LO1: Recite the steps in identifying a problem using the Problem Definition Tool.
LO2: State which key critical issue is each group’s priority based on their given topic.
Topic 10: Design on People Shadowing
LO1: Explain the importance of People Shadowing in conducting a project/research.
LO2: Relate from the subject under study by learning and observing their everyday lives.
LO3: Formulate the contextual details that can influence a person’s behavior or motivation
Topic 11: Design on Question Ladder
LO1: Describe when a question ladder is a useful and appropriate tool.
LO2: Explain the layout of the Question Ladder Template and how it works.
LO3: Select the most relevant questions to challenge the core issues of a problem or opportunity.
LO4: Explain the strengths and weaknesses of a question ladder.
Topic 12: Design on Target Group
LO1: Explain the definition and significance of using Target Group in designing a research/project.
LO2: Relate the steps learned in how to choose and identify the Target Group as well as their needs and wants in research/project that will be focusing.
LO3: Formulate interrelated ideas to gain better insights that will cater people’s needs and wants using Target Group.
Topic 13: Design on Personas
LO1: Explain the importance of Personas in conducting a project/research
LO2: Apply personas and identify the intended audience
LO3: Formulate contextual details in creating a fictional character as reference point
Topic 14: Design on Thinking Hats
LO1: Construct a new idea and organize thinking process in a detailed and cohesive manner.
LO2: Create conscious thoughts for certain aspects of the issues that are being discussed.
Topic 15: Design on Fast Idea Generator
LO1: Generate ideas by looking at a problem or opportunity from a range of perspectives.
LO2: Come up with alternatives that bend, break and stretch the “normal rules” to generate many surprising ideas
LO3: Review ideas and select the best to that can be a workable innovation
Topic 16: Design on Experience Map
LO1: Define what Experience Map is.
LO2: Point out the customer’s pain points and feedbacks.
LO3: Recommend solutions on how will the product or service be improve.
Topic 17: Design on Improvement Triggers
LO1: Apply the seven (7) thinking techniques of Improvement Triggers
LO2: Answer questions about a given product that needs development to come up with ideas for its improvement
LO3: Present the improved designs of the products created from the ideas gathered.
Topic 18: Design on Prototype Testing
LO1: Explain the purpose and importance of Prototype Testing in designing new products or ideas in a project/research.
LO2: Compose hypothesis from the feedbacks of the end-users to;
LO3: Formulate solutions on products using the Prototype Testing basic guide.

Reminders o It is expected that students have the maturity and discipline to do self-directed learning and that the Instructor facilitates the learning
through consultation and/or elaboration of topics.
o The learning activities will be uploaded in both the Moodle and Facebook Group and/or sent through email if needed.
o Submission of output/s is every end of the week preferably Sunday and should be submitted through the designated Google Folders
or Moodle if already available.
o Midterm and Final Product Idea Pitch will be done online via Zoom.

Midterm Grade MG = 75% Formative Assessment + 25% Summative Assessment
