This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the Learner:
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You
will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while being an active
learner.
Posttest – This measures how much you have learned from the
entire module.
EXPECTATIONS
This module focuses on projectile motion.
At the end of this module you are expected to:
1. define terms related to projectile motion- range, height and trajectory;
2. label a diagram illustrating projectile motion by indicating the range, height,
trajectory, initial horizontal velocity and initial vertical velocity;
3. cite some situations showing projectile motions; and
4. demonstrate the value of sportsmanship.
PRETEST
Multiple Choice: Choose the letter of the correct answer.
5. You joined the division competition in sepak takraw. But you lost in the game
along with your teammates. How should you react to this situation?
A. Approach the winning team and congratulate them.
B. Make a trash talk on the unfairness of the game.
C. Approach the winning team and confront them.
D. Confront the technical working committee.
RECAP
Word Hunt
Hint:
1. Path travelled by an object.
2. How fast an object travelled with a given direction.
3. Rate of change in velocity.
4. 9.8 m/s2 is the Acceleration due to ________
5. Motion of a body where gravity is the only force acting upon it.
LESSON
Have you tried playing on-line game most specially during this time of
pandemic? Have you tried playing Angry Birds? What is your strategy to hit a target?
As an angry bird move to hit the target it moves both in x and y directions
simultaneously. This form of two-dimensional motion deals with projectile motion.
A projectile is an object upon which the only force acting is gravity.
Projectiles include objects that are thrown horizontally and objects that are
projected at an angle.
In real life, the projectile motion finds applications in sports like playing
basketball. The player shoots the ball in such a way that the flight taken by the ball
is in the form of a parabola. Other sports that show projectile motion include football
and volleyball. Projectile motion is also applied in some street games including
dampa and sipa.
ACTIVITIES
Activity 1: Projectile Motion Launched Horizontally
Materials
1 graphing paper
1 marble
pencil
Procedure
1. Put the graphing paper in a landscape position.
2. Draw a vertical line by counting 10 small lines in a graphing paper.
(Preferably on the side of the graphing paper)
3. Place the marble on top of the vertical line as shown in the illustration
below.
2. Define range, height and trajectory of the marble (projectile) based on the
illustration.

3. Draw an arrow to indicate the initial horizontal velocity and initial vertical
velocity.

To sum-up what you have learned please complete the statement below.
Choose your answer from the words inside the box.
Projectiles include objects that are thrown horizontally as well as objects that
are projected at an angle. The horizontal motion of a projectile is (1) __________ of its
vertical motion.
height dependent
