Essay Title: Essence of Holy Week.

(ESSAY STARTS HERE)

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for

us.” Romans 5:8. Holy Week is a significant time for Catholics all over the world. It’s

the last week of Lent. During Holy Week, Catholics get together to commemorate and

take part in the Passion of Jesus. The Passion was Christ’s final days in Jerusalem. It

begins when He arrives in Jerusalem and ends when He is crucified. The celebration

begins on Palm Sunday – churches, statues, and decorations are removed or covered with

purple or black cloth. And everything will return to normal until Easter Sunday when

Jesus Christ was resurrected. Catholics take advantage of the Holy Week to remember

him and ask for forgiveness from the Lord.

Millions of Catholics around the world mark Holy Week as a crucial time. It is a

period when Catholics pause to consider Jesus Christ’s suffering, death, and resurrection.
The recollection of the incidents that led to Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection is at the

heart of Holy Week. It is a time for introspection, repentance, and reaffirmation of

faith. Catholics are reminded of God’s love for humanity via the Holy Week

celebrations and the supreme sacrifice offered by Jesus for the salvation of humanity.

Palm Sunday, which commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, marks the

beginning of Holy Week. Catholics cheerily wave palm branches as they welcome Jesus

as he enters the city on a donkey. This incident represents Jesus’ coming as the Messiah,

the person who will save the world. On this day, Catholics celebrate by going to church,

carrying palm branches, and singing hymns. Additionally, it is a time for Catholics to

consider their dedication to following Jesus and the value of humility in their life

Maundy Thursday, which marks the Last Supper that Jesus had with his disciples,

is the second day of Holy Week. Jesus established the sacrament of the Eucharist, when

followers partake in the bread and wine as a symbol of his body and blood while also

washing his disciples’ feet during this meal. Catholics should take this opportunity to

reflect on the love and service that Jesus showed through his deeds. Catholics can also

consider their interpersonal connections on Maundy Thursday to work toward love,

harmony, and forgiven

Good Friday, the day of Jesus’ crucifixion, marks the conclusion of Holy Week.

Catholics recall the anguish and suffering that Jesus underwent for the redemption of

humanity on this solemn day of mourning. The reading of the Passion of Christ, the

reverence of the Cross, and the reciting of prayers are all part of the church services that

devotees attend. It is a time for introspection, repentance, and thanksgiving for Jesus

supreme act of self-sacrifice. Good Friday serves as a reminder of God’s love and his

promise that people who trust in him will have eternal life.

The final day of the holy week is Easter Sunday. It commemorates the three-day

resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Easter marks the joyful end of the Lenten season of

intense prayer, fasting, and forgiveness for many Christian churches. The Catholic

Church exhorts its people to spend the week reflecting and repenting. Many Filipinos

now view it as a time for fun and relaxation, usually by going on vacation.

In conclusion, remembering the incidents that led to Jesus’ crucifixion and

resurrection is the actual meaning of Holy Week. Christians and Catholics should take

this opportunity to consider their religious beliefs, interactions with God, and dedication

to following Jesus. Faithful are reminded of the love, sacrificial death, and final triumph

of Jesus Christ via the commemorations of Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Good

Friday. Holy Week serves as a time for meditation, reaffirmation, and repentance, as well

as a reminder of God’s love and grace toward people.
