FUTURE TENSES

Future with WILL
Structure: Subject + will + verb + complement
Example: Maria will travel to LA next month.

We use future tense with will to talk about:

Decisions made at that exact moment of speaking.


Example: My phone is ringing. I will answer it.

LEARN MORE
Uncertain things (especially with probably, maybe, think, hope and
expect).
Example: Maybe I will go to the party.

Predictions (not certain).


Example: I think that plant will grow very fast.

Requests, promises, offers...


Example: I promise I won't do it again. I swear.

When the sentence is negative we can use


will not or won't.
Interrogatives and answers

Structure: will + subject + verb + complement


Example: Will Maria travel to LA next month?

Example: Maybe I will go to the party.

Are you going to the party?


Yes, I am
No, I am not.
Future with GOING TO
Structure: Subject + going to + verb + complement
Example: I am going to have classes next week.

We use future tense with going to to talk about:

Something we have decided to do but is not definite.


Example: I am going to wash my clothes.

LEARN MORE
Predict something when we have evidence.
Example: The sky doesn't look grey. It is not going to rain.
(For negative sentences you just add "not" before going to.)

Plans.
Example: I am going to meet my friend next week .

Remember to use
am= I
is= he/she/it
are= we/you/they
Interrogatives and answers

Structure: Am/is/are/ + going to + subject + verb + complement


Example: Are you going to meet your friend?

Example: I am going to meet my friend next week .

Are you going to meet your friend next week?


Yes, I am
No, I am not.
