1. What? Brief information of your topic

 Deviant teachings in Islam are beliefs or practices that
deviate from the authentic teachings of the Quran and
Hadith.

INTRODUCTION  They can arise from misinterpretations, cultural

influences, or personal agendas.
 These deviations can lead to division within the Muslim
community, misrepresentations of Islam, and negative
perceptions.

The country was once shaken by the heresy case of
Abdul Kahar Ahmad or better known as the Malay
Messenger.
2. Two (2) objectives of the presentation
 To present and highlight three (3) characteristics of the
teachings that deviate from Islam.

 To identify and explain 2 characteristics that relate to

religious liberalism
3. Coverage/scope of the presentation

i. Historical background
ii. Characteristics of its teachings that deviate from Islam
 Prophethood
 Sources from Qur’an and Hadith
 Shari’ah
iii. Characteristics of its teaching that corresponds to religious
liberalism
o Aqidah
o Shari’ah
i. Historical background (in brief) – when, how, who?
 "Teachings of Haji Kahar" is named after a teaching that was
brought by Haji Abdul Kahar bin Ahmad Jalal for being the
bearer of this teaching did not specifically name the teachings
brought by him.
 Began to grow in Haji Abdul Kahar’s house himself, which is
No. 44, Kg. Kemensah, Hulu Kelang, Selangor.
 He finished his formal education at the 5th grade of the Malay
School then study religion from his late father who was once
the Imam of Masjid Hulu Klang.
 He was found to be studying the Qur'an and reading
translated books by himself.
 Distribute pamphlets that state the holding and their
understanding of society
 JAIS banned this teaching in 1991 and Haji Kahar was taken to
court on the same year.
 Arrested at 2009 and faced Istitabah command.
ii. The characteristics of the teachings in general
 Proclaims God appointed him as ‘Prophets of Malay’
 Confessing to receive God's revelation as did the
BODY/ CONTENT Messenger of God on Bukit Kemensah.
 Saying that praying 5 times is not obligatory.
 The current Al-Quran is not the real Al-Quran.
 Disbelieving hadith and saying current hadith is man made.
 Muslims do not need to perform Hajj in Mecca and it can be
done anywhere.
 Claims to have a miracle by not being hit by rain and heat.
The three (3) characteristics (in specific):
 Prophethood
o Proclaims God appointed him as ‘Prophets of
Malay’
o He admitted to receiving a revelation from God
on the Bukit Kemensah and sent down in the
condition as experienced by the Messenger of
Allah S.A.W.
o He claims that he have miracles. This miracle
happened while he was at Bukit Kemensah. In
the first event it was a rainy day, but he didn't get
rained on. On the second occasion, it was a hot
day but he didn't feel hot.
o From its own book, “Al Furqan Pembeda”:
-A Prophet can be a Messenger, but a Messenger
cannot be a Prophet.
-Rasul is the conveyer of His verses which were
revealed to the prophets as if explaining His
verses clearly.
-Messengers were sent by God to every country,
every nation, every race, every group, every age.
-Messengers were sent by God to deliver His
verses in the language of their own people.
 Sources from Qur’an and Hadith
o Qur’an
-He does not believe in the current Qur’an as the
real Qur’an, but only a note from the past.
-From his own book, he stated that the Qur'an is
the knowledge of God which he revealed
through Jibrail to whomever is desired among
His servants.
o Hadith
-For him, Hadith is just human inventions made
after the death of Rasulullah (PBUH) that is
someone's story told by other people, then the
information is recorded by the other person.
- He believes that it is according to the sight or
hearing of a person or the only truth that comes
from the conjecture of the human mind.
- He also believe that those hadiths are the ones
that actually come from an empty wishful
thinking of the previous scholars and it is not
really the truth that is believed like the Qur’an.
 Shari’ah
o He does not believe in the existence of the Pillars
of Islam.
o The five daily prayers are not obligatory. For him
prayer is enough to do good and stay away from
bad words.
o Fasting is an event done by God that is it sending
down the book of the Qur'an and a very noble
reading to His servants which is the Messenger
and the believers of Islam in several days so that
they can understand the contents of the Quran
as a whole and they can enter Islam as a whole.
o Muslims no need to perform Hajj to Mecca.
Pilgrimage can be redeemed anywhere in this
world.
iv. The two (2) characteristics that relate with religious
liberalism.
 Aqidah
o Doubting the authenticity of the Quran.
-He claims that the Qur’an is infused with Arabic
culture because the Arabs are the owners of the
language.
-He believes the authenticity of the Qur’an has
no longer existed because it was all messages
based on Arab culture.
-That cause himself to admit that he was the
Prophet of Malay.

CONCLUSION In conclusion, deviant teachings in Islam refer to beliefs and

practices that deviate from the mainstream understanding of the
religion as derived from the Quran and the teachings of Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH). These teaching involve distorted
interpretations of religious texts, rejection of fundamental
principles, and sectarianism. It is important to recognize that
deviant teachings do not represent the majority of Muslims or
Islamic scholarship. The true essence of Islam lies in its teachings
of peace, justice, compassion, and the pursuit of knowledge, which
have been upheld by the vast majority of Muslims throughout
history.
