INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the paper

The era of globalization has hit all aspects of life, especially aspects
technology. In recent years, technology has become much more
sophisticated and continuous growing compared to the last few years. The
development of the technology can be felt in various fields ranging from
transportation, electronic communications good in cyberspace. The
development of science and technology has an influence on the entire
order of life globally and occurs shifting paradigms or ways of thinking in
dealing with various phenomena including mindsets related to education,
humans in the era of globalization This technology should be more active
in utilizing technology in a way Get used to reading the latest things or
news that is currently popular Look for needed references through current
technological media.

The Role of Information Technology (IT) in Education Globalization

has triggered a shift in the world of education from conventional face-to-
face meetings towards more education open. Future education will be
flexible, open and accessible accessible to anyone who needs it regardless
of age or type previous educational experience. Future education will be
more defined by information networks that enable interaction and
collaboration,
not oriented towards school buildings. The tendency for change and
innovation in the world of education will continue to occur and develop
into the 21st century recently. These changes include: it is easier to find
sources learning, more options for using and utilizing ICT, increasingly
increasing role of media and multi-media in learning activities
The Role of Information Technology (IT) as a Source and Media for
Learning in School Changes in the social, economic, technological and
political environment have greatly changed impact on the world of
education, it is necessary to think about how These changes are able to
influence a social institution and of course interact with these changes.
Huge environmental change influencing the development of the world of
education is the emergence of information technology (IT). The
development of information technology has a big influence on activities
man. Nowadays, information technology is the main facility for activities
in various sectors of life because they play a major role in change
fundamental to the operational structure and management of
organizations, education, transportation, health and research. Proposed by
Sondang P. Siahaan in Lantip Diat Pasojo Riyanto, there are three
functions of electronic learning for learning in the classroom (classroom
instruction), namely as an optional, complementary, and supplement
replacement,
a. Supplementing learning by utilizing ICT is said to function as
supplement (additional) if students have the freedom to choose whether
will use electronic learning materials or not. Because it does not there is
an obligation/requirement for students to access learning materials
through the electronics. Even though it is optional, students who Taking
advantage of it will certainly provide additional knowledge or insight.

b. Complementing learning by utilizing ICT is said to function as

complement (complementary) when learning via electronics programmed
learning materials that students receive (medium materials learned) in the
classroom. As a complement, it means learning material related to ICT is
programmed to become enrichment material (reinforcement). And
learning by utilizing ICT is said to be functional as enrichment, if
students can do it easily and quickly master/understand the lesson
material delivered by the teacher face to face advanced learners (fast
learners) are given the opportunity to access learning materials
electronics specifically developed for them. With the aim that
increasingly strengthening the level of students' mastery of the subject
matter presented by the teacher in the classroom.
c. Substitution for learning by utilizing ICT is said to function as
substitution, if learning via electronic means that students can manage
learning activities according to their time and activities flexibly.
There are three alternative uses of learning by making use of it ICT is
said to function as a substitute, namely:
a. Fully learning is carried out face to face (conventional), b. Some are
carried out face to face and some through. Learning by utilizing ICT. And
c. completely learning via the internet (Learning by utilizing ICT)
Application of Information and Communication Technology in learning It
is hoped that it can involve students in the rapid changes in life There are
always changes in the use of various information technology products and
communication. Students can use Information and Communication
Technology devices to, explore, search, analyze, and exchange
information efficiently and effective. Students will be able to quickly gain
ideas and experience from various communities and groups. Addition of
students' abilities due to use Information and Communication Technology
is able to develop an attitude of initiative and willingness to study
independently, so that students can decide for themselves and consider
when and where to use Information Technology and Communication
appropriately and optimally, including its implications at this time and in
the future front. The success of learning carried out in one educational
activity is how students can learn, by identifying, developing, organize,
and use all kinds of media and learning resources. With thus efforts to
solve problems in the approach of information technology and
communication in education is to utilize learning resources and media.

We can easily get learning support resources via cellphone Android,

Android cellphones are good for use as a learning support or as a means
to make communication easier. It's different with books which can only
be found in libraries or bookstores, and there are still many of them
students who complained because it was difficult to find the book they
wanted and there was a lack of it facilities to make it easier to find the
desired book, using a mobile phone On Android, we can find books,
journals, references, news, etc. with very easy, fast and efficient without
having to spend a long time. Because That is, learning resources are
anything that can be used as a place where teaching materials are found
or sourced for someone's learning. Android cellphones are very useful for
people in both circles adults, teenagers, even children, because Android
phones can utilized in a positive form as well as used to access internet,
which is the internet that is accessed using an Android cellphone to find
information, school assignments, references, journals, and so on. So from
that, humans cannot be far from android cellphones because android
cellphones are now can be interpreted as a tool for daily needs. Almost all
students at school bringing android and using it into positive things,
namely looking for school assignments.

Learning objectives to be achieved must pay attention to supporting

factors. One of these factors is the availability of learning resources.
Learning resources are components of learning activities that enable
individuals to acquire knowledge, abilities, attitudes, beliefs, emotions
and feelings. Learning resources provide learning experiences and
without learning resources it is impossible for the learning process to be
carried out well. In short, learning resources can be formulated as
something that can be used to support and expedite the learning process.

CHAPTER II
THEORY AND DISCUSSION

2.1 Undrstanding Gadgets

Gadget is a term that comes from English, which means a small

electronic device that has a special function. In Indonesian, gadgets are
called "acang". One of the things that differentiates gadgets from other
electronic devices is the element of "newness". This means that from day
to day gadgets always appear that provide the latest technology that
makes human life more practical. Gadget can also be interpreted as a
sophisticated device that contains various applications. This application
itself is then used as a source of information, social networking, hobbies,
creativity, and much more.

This technological tool also makes it easier for someone to carry out
various activities. Through applications connected to an internet
connection, until now, gadgets help human needs. For example, selling
goods, buying, looking for friends, and working. So, gadgets are a
development of communication technology that has many functions.

The difference between gadgets and other electronic objects is

innovation. Currently, gadgets are constantly being updated for various
human needs. In fact, gadgets or gadgets also function as business tools,
sources of information, data storage, documentation, for listening to
music, and so on. Not only that, gadgets are also used as a means of
learning online.

With the flood of new devices of various types, sizes and functions,
people are starting to get used to hearing the general term gadget which is
used to refer to sophisticated devices that have specific practical functions
with certain uses. MP3 players, laptops, netbooks, cameras, 3D TVs, E-
Readers, Xbox, tablets, and various others can be called gadgets. One of
the most familiar types of gadgets in everyday life is a mobile phone.
Gadgets of this type experienced significant progress and growth. New
discoveries are always on the list of specifications presented. Nowadays
cellphones are not only used for communication, new technology has
been implemented which allows them to be used as cameras, video
recorders, digital maps, music players, internet networks, and so on.

2.2 Gadget Development

In this very modern era, technological developments continue to

develop. Because technological developments will run according to
increasingly high levels of scientific development. Technology was
created to make human life easier in carrying out daily activities and
provide positive value. However, even though it was originally created to
produce positive benefits, on the other hand it is also possible to use it for
negative things.

Tablets and smartphones are the most widely used gadgets today
because they are small, easy to carry everywhere so people consider them
more practical. Along with the current progress of the world of
technology which is developing very rapidly, perhaps even while we are
sleeping, the world of technology continues to develop to meet human
needs for modern and practical technology. And maybe some of the
things called gadgets are in our hands, such as BlackBerry, Apple,
Android. These three brands are very common in the Indonesian market.

1. Blackberry
BlackBerry is a cellular device that has push e-mail, telephone, SMS,
internet browsing, messenger (Blackberry Messenger/BBM), and various
other wireless capabilities. The use of these sophisticated gadgets has
been so phenomenal lately, that they have become a necessity for fashion.
BlackBerry was first introduced in 1999 by the Canadian company,
Research In Motion (RIM). Its ability to convey information via wireless
data networks from mobile phone company services has shocked the
world.

BlackBerry was first introduced in Indonesia in mid-December 2004 by

the operator Indosat and the company Starhub. The Starhub company is
the embodiment of RIM, which is BlackBerry's main partner. The
BlackBerry market was then enlivened by two other large operators in the
country, namely Excelcom and Telkomsel.

As a result of demands from the Indonesian government, Blackberry

finally opened a representative office in Indonesia in November 2010.
The product that is the mainstay and makes BlackBerry popular in the
market is the fast email feature (push e-mail). This product is called fast
email because all new emails, contact lists, and schedule information
(calendar) are "displayed" directly to the BlackBerry automatically.

As mentioned above, the advantages of BlackBerry are push e-mail.

With push e-mail, all incoming e-mail can be forwarded directly to the
cellphone. E-mail has also undergone a compression and scanning
process on the BlackBerry server so that it is safe from viruses. File
attachments in the form of Microsoft Office documents and PDFs can be
opened easily. An e-mail measuring 1 MB, if received via push e-mail
can be 10 kb with fixed content.

2. Apple
A close duo since high school, Steven Wozniak and Steve Jobs started
Apple Computer. Their first product, the Apple I, was built on a circuit
board. They demonstrated it at the "Homebrew Computer Club" in Palo
Alto, California.

Then in 1977 - Apple launched the Apple II. The first personal
computer in a plastic case design and color internal graphics.
After going through such a long journey that Steve and his friends went
through.

In 2001 Apple introduced the iPod, in 2003 Apple opened the iTunes
Store, an online store allowing users to buy and download music,
audiobooks, movies and TV. Then four years later, when Apple
introduced the iPhone, the iPhone succeeded in attracting the interest of
Gadget consumers in the world with its sophistication and the many
applications that support this product. In 2008 Apple opened the App
Store as an update to iTunes. Then in 2010 Apple introduced the iPad, a
10-inch touchscreen tablet, and had an 84 percent share of the tablet
market by the end of 2010. Apple grew very rapidly and became the most
valuable company in the US.

3. Android
Android is an operating system for mobile phones based on Linux.
Android provides an open platform for developers to create their own
applications for use by a variety of mobile devices. Initially, Google Inc.
buys Android Inc., a newcomer that makes software for cell phones. Then
to develop Android, the Open Handset Alliance was formed, a
consortium of 34 hardware, software, and telecommunications
companies, including Google, HTC, Intel, Motorola, Qualcomm, T-
Mobile, and Nvidia.

At the time of the inaugural release of Android, November 5, 2007,

Android together with the Open Handset Alliance stated that it supports
the development of open standards on mobile devices. On the other hand,
Google released the Android code under the Apache license, a license is
open standard software and mobile devices.
In this world there are two types of Android operating system
distributors. The first is fully supported by Google or Google Mail
Services (GMS) and the second is completely free of distribution without
Google's direct support otherwise known as Open Handset Distribution
(OHD).
Collaboration with Android Inc.
In July 2000, Google collaborated with Android Inc., a company based
in Palo Alto, California, United States. The founders of Android Inc.
worked at Google, among them Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears,
and Chris White. At that time many considered the function of Android
Inc. only as software on a cell phone. Since then there have been rumors
that Google is about to enter the mobile phone market. At Google, the
team led by Rubin is in charge of developing mobile device programs
powered by the Linux kernel. This shows an indication that Google is
preparing to face competition in the mobile phone market.

The latest Android version, namely version 3.0.1 Android has also
joined with several smart mobiles such as Samsung, Sony Ericsson and
others.

2.3 The Role of Gadgets for Teenagers

Gadgets are one of the technologies that play a very important role in
this globalization era. Now gadgets are no strangers, almost every
teenager has them. For example, mobile phones are now enjoyed by
many teenagers. In addition, every teenager has at least two kinds of
gadgets. The latest gadgets such as the Blackberry (BB) or iPhone have
now become a vital part of teenagers' lives so they are always carried
everywhere, including when going to the toilet to defecate while using
these latest gadgets so that users often forget themselves because they are
engrossed in playing games, chatting. , or BBM.

For teenagers gadgets also function for social media, it turns out that
social media is also a technology that is often used as a learning medium,
you know. Usually, social media is used as a place for teachers, students,
and parents to 'meet' in a group. So, in this group, the teacher can provide
learning material that supports the material being discussed.

At first glance, social media learning is similar to cloud-based learning.

Learning materials can also be uploaded via these social media pages. It's
just that, usually the features and user interfaces in cloud-based learning
are more suitable and can better support learning.
As a communication tool. Without gadgets, conveying messages to
relatives or friends who are outside the island is done by sending letters
which take a long time. With this gadget, we can communicate with
someone who is not near us so it doesn't take long to convey a message.
However, sometimes many people become a little less likely to
communicate with people who are closer in person due to being busy
with their respective gadgets.

As a tool to find information. Another purpose of gadgets is to provide

information. The information accessed can make it easier for you to carry
out an activity. We can update the latest information that is happening at
this time, we can even find out previous information. As a student, this
information can be in the form of news updates about campus programs
and their developments.

As a means of increasing insight. Increased insight is the benefit of

gadgets from the combination of smooth communication and easy access
to information. We know that communication and information are one of
the elements that can increase your insight. For example, when looking
for school assignments or campus assignments, we can look for various
reference materials to broaden our knowledge and we can find thousands
or even millions of books online. However, sometimes quite a few people
become dependent on looking for answers from assignments given by
teachers and lecturers, without studying the process of getting these
answers. With this ease, people should be able to learn about the process
and develop other processes.

As a free entertainment medium. Gadgets are also useful for eliminating

your fatigue through the entertainment offered. Entertainment can be in
the form of music, games, videos and other multimedia software. This
entertainment can be in the form of using various types of applications on
gadgets, playing various games for free and as much as you like,
watching various kinds of movies via the internet, and doing online
shopping so you don't have to go to the mall anymore.
As a Lifestyle. Owning a gadget can sometimes become a lifestyle,
because sometimes someone uses this gadget just to strengthen their self-
confidence or social status. The other side is so you don't miss the latest
trends. So it's no wonder the middle and upper class have gadgets worth
tens of millions.

For some people, gadgets can be called a life partner. Because without
gadgets they will find it very difficult. For these people, gadgets are
objects that they absolutely have. In fact, not infrequently among them
who are willing to spend money to collect their favorite gadgets.
Collecting gadgets is not prohibited but instead is encouraged because
these super functional gadgets can help make our work easier. With notes
must be adjusted to income. If we are not good at managing our income
and expenses, then the desire to collect gadgets will only lead to a
consumer lifestyle which will have a bad influence on our lives.

2.4 Impact of Gadgets

Everything related to technology certainly has positive and negative

impacts, depending on the user himself. Below are some examples of the
positive and negative impacts of using gadgets.

1. Positive Impact
- Most gadgets are easy to carry anywhere so we can use the gadget's
facilities wherever and whenever.

telephone.
- Apart from that, if we travel, we can know where we are because GPS
has started to be embedded in the latest cellphones.
- We can play sophisticated games played via video games gadgets such
as PSP which can be a means of entertainment.

2. Negative Impact

because gadgets are relatively expensive.
- Many teenagers who often watch television before bed may experience
problems concentrating and lose their mood for studying the next day.
- Reducing learning achievement for those who like to play video games.
- Gadgets often affect health. For example, if you stare at a computer or
laptop for too long it will damage your eyesight and if you listen to music
too loud it will damage your hearing.
- Gadgets whose function is as a tool for storing videos, such as the iPad,
can be used by irresponsible users as a means for storing immoral videos
or indecent images.
