 The country, particularly, Philippines has immensely undergone periods wherein

changes have been made within the society. Our culture, tradition and customs have
paved way in shaping how we live our lives in today’s modern era as we call it. Generally
speaking, one cannot count the many years how our world is in fact, globalized, as
systems have evolved and countries have become interconnected with one another. I
will stand by the fact that I see everything like a coin, having two sides to it, the same as
I perceive “Globalization”.

Being called a member of the “Gen Z”, as what they say, automatically urges me to think of
technology seeing as how we’ve adapted to the variety of this means in our everyday
routines. In a source I’ve seen, we were called that because we have experienced living
without the internet. True, as I suppose, since everything has evolved in accordance to
technology. Preferably, globalization, has a lot of types but they all exhibit one thing which is
its purpose: The intensified awareness of the global whole along with interdependence and
integration among states, societies and global actors. It eliminates spatial barriers since all
events that is happening on one part of the world can be experienced by the rest of the
world through the networked technologies of the media. It is not only limited to the confines
of networks and media but traditions, cultures, and beliefs are shared throughput the world
which broadens one’s concept outside of their identity as a citizen of a particular country.
Take one for example: As a student, I’ve learned to make use of different applications
developed globally for the convenience of my studies which is in fact very beneficial to me.
Social media applications such as Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok and all means have become
so trendy nowadays that one just couldn’t get out of their habit on scrolling and checking
their accounts most especially me.

Globalization has been viewed as advantageous by some but others claim it to be

disadvantageous. When we examine how globalization has affected all of us, we cannot
avoid to look into its consequences. Delving into its positive aspects, Globalization plays a
significant role in increasing the quality of global outputs distributed in all parts of the country
such as market trading, economic policies which operates us. It influences the distribution of
income for every individual who has their own fields of work. It brings the best technology
and other forms of intellectual capital to countries that cannot produce it. I, myself, must say
that these developments have introduced me to a wide variety of media such as Social
Media which has been used by the majority as it covers different applications like Facebook,
Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter etc., whereas it also led to several consequences that I, too, is
guilty of. Globalisation led to the erosion of cultural diversity Globalization has led to the
erosion of cultural diversity and it has produced a unified global system of culture and
economic values. It leads to the erosion and decay of the cultures and traditions of
countries. It destroys the long-treasured traditions of indigenous communities and poorer
countries because the transfer of culture from developed country to
developing/underdeveloped countries is stronger. It magnifies the increasing inequality
between developed and developing/undeveloped countries.
Like what I’ve said, approaching this in a transformationalist perspective makes it easier for
me to tell the two sides of Globalization which I deem to be both beneficial and not.

There will always be two opposing views about any issue. Those who claim globalization as
advantageous, it is obvious that they have benefitted from it. Those who claim otherwise
have been at the receiving end of the bad effects of globalization. What we fail to
comprehend is the fact that globalization cannot be avoided because we are part of the
global community. A global community that has been separated by physical boundaries that
meant to protect a territory from invasion or outside forces. These were for the protection of
the inhabitants and the resources of a country. However, because of the expansion by some
countries through the use of force, this removed the physical barrier. Such expansion
created the first step to globalization. Like what I’ve said, approaching this in a
transformationalist perspective makes it easier for me to tell the two sides of Globalization
which I deem to be both beneficial and not. Still, we cannot deny how we’ve transcended for
the past years with the emergence of globalization but must learn to balance what should be
done to contribute to our society as well as mitigate those that are deemed harmful for our
improvement.
